UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL STEINFIELD AND WILLIAM R. FOUST, OF LEETON IA, OHIO.
SHOW-OAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364.448, dated June 7, 1887.
Application filed November 23, 1886. Serial No. 219,686.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SAMUEL STEINFIELD and WILLIAM R. FoUsT, both of Leetonia, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Show- Case, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of our improved show-case, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on line :0 x in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of refererence indicate corresponding parts in both views.
The object of our invention is to provide a show-case for displaying and storing shirts,
collars, and similar articles.
Our invention consists in a show-case having inclined sides and a series of compartments for containing shirts, collars, 8m, the show-case being provided with a sliding sash containing the glass, and having a sliding shelf for the convenience ofthe salesman in handling the goods. 7
It also further consists in notched bars placed in the upper and lower part of the show-case and a board adapted to be placed in the notches of the bars for holdingthe shirts up to the front of the show-case.
To the tabletop A are secured the back pieces, B B, of the showcase, the said back pieces being inclined toward each other and meeting at a point above the center of the table. Outside of the back pieces,l3 B,are secured frames 0 0, parallel with the back pieces and provided with the sash D, containing glass E. The two show-cases F F thus formed are oppositely arranged with respect to each other, and thesashes D are capable of sliding upward through the tops of the frames 0 G. The spaces between the frames 0 O and the backs of the cases are closed by hinged lids G, and the spaces between the backs B B of the ends of the show-case are filled by a triangular board, H. The ends of the show-case are closed by panels.
A molding, I, surrounds the upper portion of the case, and a molding, J, surrounds the lower portion thereof and forms a finish between the showcase and the table-top A.
Underneath the table-top A are arranged drawers K K, which may be drawn out from opposite sides of the table, and between the (No model.)
drawers and the table top are arranged sliding shelves L L.
The upper ends of the sash D are provided with a flexible strip, M, of cloth or other suitable material, for-closing the spaces between the sash and the frames 0 G and excluding dust. A portion or all of the compartments of the show-case are provided with shelves N, near the top, for receiving collars, cuffs, and other small articles. At the bottom and top of each show-case are placed notched bars the edge thereof and bearing against the frame 0 for automatically holding the sash at any desired height.
Itis obvious that a case may be constructed according to our improvement with only one inclined show-ease instead of two, a case so made being adapted to be placed against a i wall.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In ashow-case, the combination of the inclined backs B B, the inclined frames (30', the sashes D, adapted to the frames 0 G, the strip M, attached to' the upper ends of the sashes, and the inclosing-pieces of the ends and top of the case, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the inclinedshowcases F F, of upper and lower horizontal notched bars 0 and inclined boards 0, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The table provided with a top, A, the sliding shelves L L, and drawers K K, the inclined show-cases F F, formed of the backs B 13, frames G G, and the sash D, provided with the glass E, substantially as described.
