BOOK-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,461, dated November 16, 1880.
Application tiled July 27, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, IWIANLY C. DODGE, 0f Caro, in the county of Tusoola and4 State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Book-Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following isafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, which t'orm a part ot' this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view Ot' my improved revolving book-rack and wardrobe, with one of the racks or series of shelves exposed to view, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the iigures.
This invention relates to iml'irovements in hook-racks which are also adapted to serve as wardrobes or for other storing purposes; and it consists ot' a revolving trame having independently-revolving shelved apartments, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A indicates a revolving upright frame, which, as regards its revolving movement, is not novel. At the corners of' the frame are upright pieces,
I A', fastened to top and bottom pieces, A2 A2,
and which are arranged, with relation to said top and bottom pieces, in such a manner that a plane passing horizontally through the aforesaid bottom and top pieces in the same vertical plane with the corner-pieces A' would form the base ot1 a triangle whose other two sides would be bound by the sides of the bottom and top pieces at their corners. The frameA is pivoted or supported upon a post or axis, B, extending up through it or through an nclosing case or box within the center of the frame, its upper end bearing in the top, or rather in a socket therein, while the lower end thereof is supported upon feet b.
(No model.)
D D are upright apartments or cases, with their upper and lower ends provided with pivots el, which enter sockets in the bottom and top pieces A2 A2, to permit them to have an independent rotary motion, separate from that of the frame. Each of these apartments, with one side left open, is provided with a series of shelves or racks, D' D', arranged one above the other. These shelves or racks serve for holding books, Or the compartments thus formed may serve for holding articles of dress or wear, or for other storingpurposes, as may be desired.
It will be Observed that while the frame, with the racks or compartments, may be conveniently revolved to bring any one of the shelved apartments or racks opposite to the operator to obtain the desired book or article, each ot' said apartments or racks may be revolved to present its back to the operator, after securing or removing the book Or article, 1n order to protect the books or contents of the apartments from dust, &c., and conceal them from view when desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States;
The book rack or case com posed ot' the support or standard B b, revolving frame A,hav ing top and bottom pieces A2 A2, connected by the corner posts or nprights, A', and vertical revolving` racks D, having shelves D' and pivots d, and disposed between the oblique corner-posts A', all combined and arranged substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afXed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MANLY O.DODGE. Witnesses:
CELIA ION DODGE, JOHN F. SEELEY.
