' UNITED STATES PATENT ,OFFICE.
JOHN READING, OF AKRON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE READING MANUFAC- TURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
SAM PLE-BOOK RACK.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,809, dated October 23, 1894.
' Application filed February 5. 1894- Serial No. 499,064. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN READING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sample-Book Racks, of which the following is a specification.
In the wall-paperbusiness as now conducted each manufacturer produces a series of designs for the dilferent classes and kinds of wall paper, and furnishes to the retail dealers sample books of the different papers. The preservation of these books from injury in handling, and the ability to readily produce the samples from any. particular manufacturer, and exhibit them are of the utmost importance to the retail dealer.
which will afford tablets by which the names of the manufacturers and classes of paper may be instantly ascertained.
To the aforesaid object my invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and then specificallypointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views: Figure 1, is a perspective of my complete rack; Fig. 2, a central, longitudinal vertical section of the right end of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3, an enlarged elevation of a portion of one of the suspension bars and with its rocking brackets.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a frame consisting of four posts united by side and end rails, to one of the narrower upper ends of which is hinged a swinging slatted leaf 2, arranged to swing outward and be supported by the brace 3, resting against the rack 4.
In the upper side rails of the frame 1, are pivotally suspended in oppositely-disposed sockets a series of rocking arms or brackets 5, each pair sustaining and connected with a crossbar 6, bearing in its center a knob 7, for a purpose to be stated. Each bracket bears a pintle to enter the socket in the side of the frame, and is connected with the cross bar 6, by a screw or equivalent device as shown in Fig. 8, and they are arranged so nearly together that the adjacent cross bars will meet when rocked in either direction; but will separate when rocked in opposite directions, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. On the knobs 7 of each cross bar is hung the loop of one of the sample books 8. These books are inserted between the cross-bars 6, by swinging the adjacent bars apart; and when desired for exhibition are readily released therefrom by the same process; and, the suspending cord being looped over the knob 9, 0n the top of the leaf 2, allows the book to lie on said leaf, where its different patterns may be exhibited.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A sample book rack consisting of a supporting frame, and parallel cross bars interposed between its sides, said cross-bars being mounted on rocking brackets pivotally mounted in the opposite sides of said frame, substantially as shown and described. I
In testimony that I claim the above I here unto set my hand.
