GQMBINED UIELAER AND CABINET.
Combined Chair and (labinet, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of this invention is to provide novel, simple and practical details of construction for chair, whereby a closablc cabinet is afforded in combination therewith, the reception and protection of garments or other articles, which convenient access 'n' i be haul as may be desired The invention consists in the novel construction and. combination of parts, as is hereinafter described and defined in the ep- Referenhc is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a p 't of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is s perspective view, showing the chair and cabinet, the latter heing open at the exposure of its interior; and. a sectional side view of the device, j the cabinet closed and articles of pieced therein.
air 5 is constructed with two similar lls e, {3, a bottom wall 6" and a front wall the front and bottom walls being ailirter'i ct their ends upon the respective side walls, thus producing a box-lilae structure.
' A seat-bocrd 7, is secured by its ends on the upper edges of the side walls 6 and located torwardly thereon, leaving a space at its reer edge and over the bottom Wall 6 for a completing portion 7 for the seat,-said portion having its forward transverse edge h ed upon the rear transverse edge of the i1 seat-hoard 7.
-board 7 at each side of the chair; and upwanl. extensions 8*, that may be integral formations on the legs and project shove the seat-board, the forward ends of two arms 9 are seated and secured. From the side walls 6 side-bars 6, for a back frimie, ttend upward and may incline rearward, as shown in the drawings, the arms 9 having their rear ends joined to the side bars.
it cap-piece 6 is secured upon the upper ends ol the side bars 6; and upon the upper edges of the side walls 6, adjacent to the side e, a transverse strip 6 is secured, thus fil oeci'ficetion of Letters Patent. Application filed October 9. 1907, Ser iel N0. 3%.595-
have invented a new and Improved.
Two front legs 8 extend down from the Patented Feb. 13, 3.353%.
l'completing a rectangular border-framefor the back. of the chair. 7 1
Two near, legs 8 project down at each si of the chair a short distance below the b tom wall 6; and as shown in Fig. 2, said bottom wall extends rearward beyond the legs 8.
Upon the rear and side edges of the cappiece 6 and rearward extension of thebottom wall 6', a rear wall 6* for a cabinet" is secured at its corresponding edges, the sidh edges of the cabinet wall being also secured to the rear edges of the side walls 6 and side bars 6".
A door 10,'of any suitable material and which may he upholstered on is hinged at one side edge upon each of the side bars 6, as shown at i, tnus providing a back for the chair, that also forms a front wall for the cabinet 5 when said door is closed.
The hinged seat the upper face at its free edge with an enlar'gement or projection, which enga es the outer faces of the doors 10, so that W ion the seat section is closed the doors 10 are held closed and cannot be opened until the said seat section is opened.
In the chamber formed below the hinged portion 7 of the chair-seat, headwear, footwear or other articles of Wear may be placed,
as shown in Fig. 2.
Within the cabinet a rack is provided'for the support of clothing or other articles as shown, the rack consists of upright strips a, having rrotches at intervals in their rear edges, which receive cross-bars b whereon garments may be hung, said cross-bars being adapted for change of position as-occasion may re one. 7
It wil be seen that the construction of th parts and their combination as hereinbefore described, provides a very commodious armchair and a closable cabinet, wherein garmerits may be conveniently placed and preserved from dust or from becoming 'mussed, as usually occurs if such clothing is laced 0111 the back of a chair when remove from t 1e formed below the removable seat, ailords a very convenient receptacle for holding hats, shoes, or other articles that may thus be stowed compactly, out of the -way, but readily accessible as occasion may require.
1t will be noted further that such an article of furniture may be placed in bedrooms for the front face,
section 7 is provided on person. Furthermore the chamber,-
vention may be made, as, for example, there ney be shelves (not shown) laced in the cabinet in lieu. of cross-bars, {UK the seat may be in one piece and cover or openthe entire top of the ch'embm' below it, hence I chiiin all such sligl'it alterations as fall Within the spirit and intent of the subjoined clairns.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure Patent:
1. A combii'icd chair and cabinet, comprising solid side pieces having front and rear logs, the front legs projecting above the side pieces, upwardly extending side bars at the rear thereof, and arms extending from the side bars to the upper ends of the front legs, a rearwardly inclined front secured between the forward. portions of the side pieces, a bottom extending from the front between the sides, beyond the rear legs, a cap piece socured to the upper ends of the side bars and extendingrearwerdly beyond the same, a back secured to the cap piece, to the projecting portion of the bottom end to the rear by Letters l l l l i l l l l l l the lower ends of the side bars,
edges of'the side pieces and side bars, a trans verse bar between the side pieces adjacent toportions of the side pieces, a bottom extend .ing reerwsrdly from the front between the side pieces, and beyond. the rear legs, a cap piece secured between the upper ends of the side bars, a back secured to the cap piece, side pieces, side bars and to the projecting portion of the bottom, a transverse bar between the rear portions of the side pieces at a door hinged at one edge to-eeoh of the side bars, and a seat having a hinged rear section, the free edge of which is provided on its up er face with a projection engaging, the said oors to hold them closed.
