WILLIAM C. IIUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OllIO.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,555, dated August 7, 1894.
Application fil July 13, 1894. Serial No. 517.489. Term of patent 3% years.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM C. IIUSS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and Stateof Ohio, have inventeda certain new and useful Design for a Wall-Fixture for Counters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original design forwall fixtures for counters, the leadingfeature of which is the entablatnre, having a projecting cornice, a plain polished frieze with scroll and foliage ornaments projecting from it, of a dilferent color from the base of the frieze upon which the ornaments are planted, a massive carved capital at each end supporting the entablatu re, the capital being supported by three colonial columns, two of which rest upon the sideboard portion, and the outer end ones upon the base which rests upon the surbase, which corresponds with the base of the sideboard, as shown in the accompanying drawings hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of one end of a wall fixture embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same taken through line a: a: of Fig.1.
The sideboard or closet portion rests upon a molded base, A, and is fitted with doors, B, having transparent panels, the base and front of the sideboard portion being broken by pilaster columns, 0, which extend up to the polished top, A, of the sideboard, the pilasters being ornamented with foliage at the top. The upper space between the pilasters at the end of the sideboard is fitted with drawers having carved handles, and the central portion below the molding which supports the top of the sideboard is a plain strip with a beaded molding near its bottom edge.
Resting upon the end of the sideboard are two colonial columns, D, which have plain turned bases and capitals, and outside of these columns and the sideboard ends are two largercolumus of similar style, E. These end columns have plain bases and capitals like the smaller columns, I), and above the base, projecting beads, e. The large columns rest upon a square pedestal, E, which extends back to the rear of the fixture. This pedestal rests upon a base, e, which is a continuation and return of the sideboard base, passing, like the pedestal, E, to the back of the fixture. The three columns, D, D and E, are surmounted by a single empire capital, F, the capital being ornamented by carved foliage at the corners and in the center between the corners, upon the front faces of the capital.
The upper fascia of the architrave consists of two plain fillets, g and g, the upper one projecting beyond the frieze, and the fillet, g, projecting some distance beyond the upper fillet, g'. The lower fascia is a beaded molding, g the whole extending in light lines across the front and ends of the entablature. The frieze, H, is a plain, flat, polished surface, enriched with projecting scroll ornaments, I. These ornaments connect along the front and return around the corner and end of the frieze. They are, for effect, preferably made of material of a different color from the base of the frieze upon which they rest. For instance, if the wall fixture is made of light colored wood, the ornaments upon the frieze should be of polished bronze or material of a darker color, and if the fixture is made of the darker material, the ornaments should be polished brass or some light plated metal.
The cornice, J, is a heavy projecting molding, j, corbeled by a beaded molding, j, and beneath it and above the frieze, are plain fillets, j The back of the sideboard portion, A, extends out beyond the column,E, and its outer end, above the side board portion, furnishes the ends or frame for the bevel edged reflecting mirror, K, which extends the full width of the sideboard, the strips, k and k, being itsupper and lower framing pieces.
What I claim is- The design for wall fixtures for counters, substantially as shown and described.
\VILLIAM C. HUSS.
