.N NE CA a? D VMLL FIXTURE FOR OOUNTBRB.
Patented July 4, 1893.
.[12 YEafuI'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I'sENJAMIN F. CAllN, on CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DES lGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
at all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. UAHN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented acertain new and useful Design for Wall-Fixtures for Counters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original design for wall fixtures for counters, the main features of which are the closet or pedestal with its forwardly projecting drawer portion, the back with the entablature above it, and the forwardly projecting cornice or canopy supported by columns which rest upon the top of the closet portion, as shown in nying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of one half of a fixture made according to my new design, with a portion of the canopy broken away to expose the arched reflecting panels forming the upper part of the back of the fixture. Fig. 2 is a central transverse vertical sectional view of the same.
Referring to the parts by letter, A is the closet or side board with its center formed of a diamond shaped bevel edged reflecting panel at, having in either corner spandrels a, which are triangular bevel edged reflecting panels, and on either side of this center ornamentation are four arched bevel edged reflecting panels the accompaa surrounded with plain moldings. Above- .these :panels and apparently supported by the, fluted pil'asters at having carved Ionic capitals a", is the drawer portion A projecting slightly forward, its lower edge enriched with a bead molding a and its front ornamenta' tion consisting of plain bevel edged rectangular panels a except above each pilaster, where the plainness is broken by carved sunken panels a. Resting upon the rear closet portion is the back, which has almost its entire surface composed of mirrors, the center one B, being rectangular, while those at each end B arebevel edged and have rounded corners, and all are surrounded bya rich bead molding. At either side of the center mirror is a column B with plain shaft b and surmounted by a bulb shaped carved capital 12' and at each end of the back rises a fluted column B, whose capital b isnrofusely The eifeetof the design may beheightened by electricjets suspended from the roof of the canopy and placed in such position that the lightmay be reflected by the number of re- 1o fleeting panels which form the back and ornamented with carved foliage. Above the mirrors and seemingly resting upon the columns B and ll", is the top 13 of the back fixture, which is enriched with small arched mirrors b. The base of the architrave is a molding which is returned over each capital to form its abacus. lhe molding is corbelled by molded dentals b, and immediately above them and between the arched panels are fluted pilasters.
A distinguishing feature of my design is the overhanging canopy like portion C. The
molded cornice (J' has its lower edge finished with a continuous row of dentals and forms the upper part of the canopy. Beneath the cornice is a frieze O fitted with bevel edged reflecting mirrors of various sizes and shapes. At each end the oval reflecting panel 0 has at either side the mirrors 0, having their upper and lower edges and oneend formed in straight lines, while the opposite ends are formed concentric to the ends of the panel 0. The center of the frieze follows the same design, and the panels between these end and center re fleeting panels are rectangular. The ovolo molding 0 with the plain molding beneath it, edges the canopy proper, which is supported by four columns resting upon the closet portion. Of these the and columns or supports, D, extend back and close the ends of the fixture, and on the front and two sides are ornamented with nod ulcs, around which twines a carved vine. Surmounting this column is a heavily carved capital cl, representing the head of an animal, conventionally treated. The intermediate columns D have their capitals d arched outwardly upon each side to meet the edge of the cornice. The front of the capital has carved upon it a head, from either side of which carved foliage reaches almost to the top of the capital. Immediately above this carved head, and extending over the molding, frieze and cornice of the canopy, is a carved shieldol with carved foliage taking the form of a scroll, springing from either side, and the top in front of the cornice molding terminates in a conventional shell.
The curved under side of the cap d is fitted with reflecting panels (1, as seen in Fig. 2. The
canopy of the fixture and the red ecti ng panels d of the arched capitals;
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for wall fixtures for counters,-
substantially as herein shown and described.
