Description

DESIGN.
D. ROTHSGHILD.
WALL FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
N0. 22,163. Patented Jan. 24, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID ROTIISCIIILD, OF CINCINNATI, OIIIO.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID ROTHSCHILD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for \Vall-Fixtu res forConntcrs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original, design for wall fixtures for counters, theleading features of which are the entablature, the cornice above it, the lower or closet portion of the fixture and the hack and columns resting upon the side-board or closet portion and supporting the entablature, as shown in the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of one half of the fixture made according to my new design.
The lower or side board portion of the fixture, terminating in the top A, which is molded around the edge and straight from end to end, has its front formed in a projecting upper portion A, the front of which has raised panels a, the panels having beveled edges and forming the fronts of the drawer portion. Underneath the frame work of the drawer portion is a beaded molding a. The space between the two end drawers, which projects slightly beyond the drawer portion, has a carved panel arched from the lower portion up, and fluted radially, the spaces in the corners above the arched portion having carved spandrels. Underneath the carved panels and apparently supporting the upper portion of the side board are short fluted columns a surmounted by Ionic capitals, the abacus of which capitals are molded blocks smaller than the diameter of the column, with a molded top larger that the portion that rests upon the top of the capital. The surbases of the columns are rectangular but having the corners turned or shaped to meet the base proper of the column, the straight portion conforming in width to the plain straight portion of the plinth. The central portion of the closet front is a diamond shaped panel a having triangular molded panels in the space between the upright and the triangle end of the diamond. The doors a have arched moldings surrounding raised arched panels a 50 The space above the arches upon the frame of the door is ornamented by carved spandrels a. The end portions of the entablature project beyond the center portion and the architrave is relieved by a heavy turned 5 5 molding b. The molding is preferably formed as shown, with rounded and fluted portions and the return of the molding round the corners ornamented by a foliated leaf or honeysuckle. On the portion of the cornice above the ends are Grecian scrolls c, the tion being cut out to meet the carved corbel c, which has a turned cap or molding 0 upon the top of it to support an urn, a vase or statue, if desired. The central portion of the cornice C meets in the center an ornamental carved shield c which has a large oval projection with a diagonal band or ribbon across it. From the lower portion of the shield, upon each side, carved foliage springs out upon the frieze 0'. Between this carved foliage and the projecting end portion of the cornice are three beveled edge reflecting panels 0. Ihe moldings above and below the architraves B meet in mitered edges around the pro ecting ends of the entablature. The back of the fixture has a rectangular molded frame in the recessed center portion, which incloses the mirror D, and the end portions are provided with oval molded frames which inclose beveled edged mirrors D. At the end of the back portion and between the rectangular and oval mirror frames, are fluted pilasters (Z. The back of the fixture has raised carved spandrels d in the angular spaces formed by the oval molded frame, the cornice, top A and pilasters d.
The front portion of the entablature is apparently supported by two columnsE and E. The end one has thelower portion fluted and headed molding above the fluted portion and the upper portion of the shaft ornamented with a carved twining vine or foliage. The column E is plain from base to capital. Both columns are surmounted by carved capitals of the Corinthian order. The base of the columns rest upon octagonal plinths e, and these are connected apparently with the pilasters by brackets e'. The molded abacus of the capital is also octagonal; that is, the corner portions above the volutes are cut 0E and rectangular blocks rest on top of the abacus between it and the lower fascia of the architrave.
What I claim is A design for wall fixture for counters, substantially as herein shown and described.
