Description

Jan. 3,1967 7 L. E. JOHNSON 3,295,470
BATHTUB TRAY Filed Dec. 10, 1965 hvmvroa LuX/rne E. Johnson United States Patent 3,295,470 BATHTUB TRAY Luverne E. Johnson, 455% 48th St., San Diego, Calif. 92113 Filed Dec. 10, 1965, Ser. No. 512,998 2 Claims. (Cl. 108-47) This invention relates to supporting devices for bath tubs, and more particularly a bath tub tray.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a bathtub tray which may be positioned over the intermediate portion of a bath tub for supporting a variety of articles thereon.
Another object of this invention is to provide a bath tub tray having a plurality of cut outs and securing devices thereon.
Another object of this invention is to provide a bath tub tray having outwardly inclined supports for firmly securing the top portion of said tray to the upper edges of .a bath tub.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a bath tub tray which is easy to manufacture and provides maximum utility to its user.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view.
FIGURE 2 is an end view of FIGURE 1.
According to this invention a bath tub tray is provided with an elongated panel 11. Panel 11 is of such a length as to slightly overlap the edges 15 and 16 of a bath tub 14. However, if there is no room at one side of bath tub 14 for admitting extension of panel 11 due to structural features such as, a wall or some other obstacle, disposed in a vertical plane. A pair of support panels 12 and 13 suitably attached to the bottom portion 18 of panel 11 in such a manner that the side 19 of panel 13 and side 20 of panel 112 removably communicate with the elongated inside walls 21 of bath tub 14. This type of arrangement is clearly shown in FIGURES 1 and 2. The top portion of panel 11 is provided with numerous cut outs and recesses for holding a variety of articles,
Patented Jan. 3, 1967 such as soap, beverages, and others. For the sake of illustration, cut out 14a is shown in the drawing which is adapted to hold a glass or container 22. Also, panel 11 can be used for supporting books, and various other articles usually not found in conventional trays.
Looking now at the drawing, one will see that bath tub tray 10 is of such a'construct-ion that it may be fabricated of wood, metal, and/ or any synthetic material.
What I now claim is:
1. A bathtub tray comprising an elongated horizontal panel adapted to be positioned over an intermediate portion of a bathtub rim, a pair of supports secured to said panel near the ends thereof and extending in perpendicular relationship therefrom for removably securing said tray to the upper portion of said tub, and recess means on said panel for providing holding means for articles adapted to be positioned and secured therein, said pair of supports comprising vertical panels secured on the underside of said horizontal panel, said vertical panel extending downwardly and parallel to each other when said bathtub tray is placed over an intermediate portion of said tub, and said vertical panels being shorter in length than the width of said horizontal panel and centrally mounted between opposite side edges of said horizontal panel.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein, said recess means comprises a depression upon the upper side of said horizontal panel, said depression being relatively closer to one longitudinal end of said horizontal panel, and relatively closer to one lateral side edge thereof than to the other lateral side edge.
