BASSINET' HOLDER Filed Nov. 5. 1954 United States Patent BASSINET HOLDER Wesley l3. Stanley, Bronx, N. Y.
Application November 5, 1954, Serial N 467,197
1 Claim. (Cl. 4-173) This invention relates to bassinet holders.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a bassinet holder which will be easily and readily supported across the top of a conventional bathtub and which will suspend therewithin a bassinet.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a bassinet holder which may be slid easily and readily lengthwise of the bathtub to permit the bassinet to be disposed below the faucet in the event the faucet is located on the side of the bathtub.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a bassinet holder of the above type which will not fall in any direction when positioned across the top of the tub.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a bassinet holder of the above type which may be easily and readily disassembled into five parts and packed in a compact manner within a carton for merchandising purposes.
For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention shown alone;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the invention in operative use; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken along the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, represents a conventional bathtub including the usual faucets 11, substantially as illustrated.
In the practice of my invention, a bassinet holder is provided and includes transversely of the bath tub a pair of elongated rectangular wooden strips or side bars 12, to the undersurface of which are secured the angle bars 13 at opposite ends (Fig. 3). The angle bars 13 are adjustable and are covered with the resilient pads 14 of rubber or other suitable material, the pads 14 abutting the inner faces of the sides of the tube 10 and preventing lateral displacement of the side bars 12 relative thereto. The angle bars 13 at one end of the strips 12 are adjustable by means of the bolts 15 which are longitudinally spaced apart and pass through suitable openings provided in the strips or side bars 12, being secured therewithin by wing nuts 16. Thus, by selectively engaging the angle bars 13 with the longitudinally spaced bolts 15, the distance between the angle bars on the same strip may be varied to accommodate tubs of varying width.
Bolts 17 pass upwardly through suitable openings provided in the strips or bars 12 at one end thereof and serve to secure thereacross a longitudinal end strip 18 having openings aligned therewith by means of the wing nuts 19.
A second longitudinal strip 22 is secured across the tops of the strips or bars 12 inwardly of the strip 21 by means of the bolts 23 and wing nuts 24, a supporting ledge or strip 25 being suitably secured to the undersurface of the strip 22 and extending inwardly therefrom.
A bassinet 26 is integrally formed at its upper edge with the outwardly extending flange 27, the flange 27 being supported upon the side bars 12 and the ledge 25, in a readily removable manner. Thus, the holder forms a frame that will support the bassinet 26 across the tub in a firm, yet easily removable, manner, while the holder itself be adjusted longitudinally of the tub, for example when it is desired to fill the bassinet from the faucets 11.
The holder itself will be constructed of hard wood and will be treated with a stain so that boiling water will not harm it and it is adapted to fit into practicaly any type of bathtub. The bolts are of brass or other non-corrosive material and the bassinet 26 is preferably of porcelain. It will be noted that the frame fits very snugly over the large tub 10 and that it will not fall in any direction due to the rubber covered adjustable angle bars 13 located beneath the frame.
After the body has been bathed, it is simply necessary to wash out the bassinet 26 and dump the dirty water into the main tub 10. When not in use, both bassinet 26 and the holder may be removed by anyone.
The porcelain basin 26 will not leak, unlike conventional bassinets of canvas or plastic covered with enamel paint. No tubing or basin on the floor is necessary to empty the bassinet 26 after the bath, eliminating the usual running over and flooding of the kitchen. It will be noted that the invention requires less room than conventional bassinets now on the market. After the child is too old to use the bassinet, the latter may be used for washing out small articles of clothing and for carrying laundry to the washing machine or to the roof to hang clothes to dry.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A bath tub bassinet holder for supporting a bassinet having a peripheral flange, said bassinet holder including a pair of substantially parallel side bars spaced apart longitudinally of the bath tub and adapted to be mounted transversely thereof, a pair of longitudinally disposed end strips spaced transversely apart and secured at their ends upon the ends of the side bars to form a holder frame therewith, angle bar means fixed at the ends there of beneath said side bars and forming depending stop means for engaging against the interior of one longitudinal side wall of the bath tub, correspondingly opposite additional angle bar means transversely spaced from the fixed angle bar means and mounted beneath said side bars in depending position to form further stop r means serving to engage against the interior of the opposite side wall of said bath tub, a plurality of bolts extending down through said side bars for interchangeably securing the additional angle bar means in different positions of adjustment with respect to said side bars, a further longitudinally disposed strip fixed upon said side bars within one of said longitudinally disposed end strips adjacent to the fixed angle bar means, and a supporting ledge fixed beneath said further longitudinally disposed strip and projecting inwardly over the bath tub therefrom to form a support together with the side bars and the respectively opposite remote longitudinally disposed end strip for supporting the flange of the bassinet.
