Description

Oct. 19,- 1937. o. P. GALT P RTABLE BATHTUB Filed June ll, 1937 I UNlTED STATE "-dren;
An object of the invention is to provide a sim- 5 ple, compact andeflicient device of this charac- Patented 'oc'tfia, 1931 r j PATENT OFFICE roa'ranna BATHTUB on. Putnam Galt, Canton, on."
Application June 11, 1937, Serial No. 147,739
3 Claims. (01. 4-185) I This invention, relates to a portable bathtub.
designed primarily for use in bathing small chilter. which can beset upfor. use upon an ordinary porcelain'ltub where it will be held securely while in use, the construction being such that, after the device has been used, it can be collapsed and A further object is to provide a device of this character adjustable so as to be supported upon bathtubsof diiferent sizes.
l stored in asmall space. a
. Another object is to provide a device which serves also 'as atable for holding such articles as may be found necessary for use in washing or dressing aninfant.
-- With the foregoing" and other objects in view which will appear as'the' description proceeds,
' I 1 the invention consists of certain novel details of iconstruction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spiritoi the invention as claimed; 7 I ,1 -In the accompanying drawing the preferred form of the invention has been shown. i
r In said drawing 30 Figure 1 we "bottom plan view of the device opened out for use. I
2 isa jtransverse section. on the line -,;2;-'-2,'Flgure 1, a portion of a supportingbathtubbeing shown in section and a smaller tub 35 forming a part of the present inventionbeing also shown in section and in position. I I Figure 3 -is a section on line 3-4, Figure 1;
v Figure 4 is asimilar viewshowing the frame of the device folded, forstorage purposes.
o 40 Referring'to the figures by characters of ref- I erence I designates a frame, preferably rectangular, and provided with a suitable top 2 secured thereon. and formed with an opening 3. This I opening is preferably located adjacentto one 4 side of the frame so as to leave a considerable area between the opening and the opposite side fot theframe for'tuse as a table, this area being "indicated-"atl. Theframe is'divided into two sections =along :av line extending transversely f across the openlng3, as indicated at 5, these sec- *ti'ons being joined by hinges 6 so located as to r 1 allow the sections of the frame to fold together when not in use, and as shown in Figure 4. When thusfolded the opposedv sections'of the, '5 framecan be held against relative movement by any suitable means, such as a hook I carried by one of the sections and detachably engaging a nin 8 on the other section.
The frame is so proportioned as to extend transversely across and rest upon the upper edges 5 of an ordinary porcelain bathtub B, as shown in Figure 2. In the bottom of the frame are formed grooves 9 in which are located slides l0 having slots H in which are located clamping bolts I2 I or the like. Each slide has a jaw 13 extending downwardly therefrom. Normally these slides are located between the opposed sides of the tub B'when the present invention is placed on the tub and it is thus possible to adjust the slides relative to each other in order to bring the jaws 15 against the inner surfaces of the tub B so as to prevent the frame I from sliding out of position on the tub. Thus the device can be adjusted for use on tubs of different widths.
The opening 3 is of such size and shape as to 2 receive a small tub or water container M such as commonly used for bathing infants. This container has an outturned flange I5 at its upper edges adapted to bear downwardly on the top of the device so that the container thus will be supported in proper position while the device is in use. The area indicated at 4 can be used for supporting various articles necessary when bathing or dressing an infant.
When it is not desired to use the device the container I4 is lifted out of position and the two opptsed sections of the frame are folded together as shown in Figure 4 after which they can be fastened and stored away with container l4 until again needed. I
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the class described adapted to I be supported on a bathtub, said device including sections, hinges connecting said sections for folding one upon the other in one direction only,
' a water container insertable into the opening to hold the sections against folding, said top constltuting means for engaging and supporting the container.
3; A device of the class described comprising a frame, a top secured thereonhaving an opening,
said frame and top being separated into two g sections, hinges connecting said sections for 5 folding one upon the other in one direction'only,
a water container insertable into the opening to hold the sections against folding, said top conopposed walls of a supporting tublor thelike to a I hold the device against displacement relative to 5 said supporting means. so v: I
