BATHING TABLE FOR INFANTS.

My invention relates to that class pf bathing tables for infants which are designed to provide facilities for the ready and convenient bathing of infants, and has for its object to materially increase the comforts available for the user and to provide a table in which all the necessary requirements will be available and to avoid the necessity for any complicated or unsanitary equipment.

My means for accomplishing the foregoing may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side view of the improved device.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view showing means of adjusting the width of the device to fit snugly upon an ordinary bath tub.

As shown in t e drawings, the top 1 of the table is composed of the slats 2 which are integrally mounted upon the frames 3 and carried by the supports 4, 5, 6 and 7. The

frames 3 are so shaped on their upper edges that a portion of the slats 2 of the top 1 form a fixed curve, particularly as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, for the purpose of receiving the body of an infant to be bathed, the remainder of said slats 2 of the top 1 forming a flat surface on which a receptacle for water and other bathing accessories can be placed for ready accessibility.

Although I have described a specific curve in the top 1 of the invention, it will be apparent to persons skilled in the art that the same is not confined to a specific curve for receiving the body of an infant to be bathed, and that any suitable or desired curve may be employed to the same end.

Unlike other bat-hing tables in my construction, the said slats 2 provide a firmness and yet a resiliency which facilitates convenience and comfort in use, and while I do not desire to claim this feature apart from the invention, it is considered novel in this use and is referred to as imparting practicability and novelty to the invention in a very marked degree.

I provide lateral bracing means for the supports 4, 5, 6 and 7, which as shown consists of the brace 8 and 9 held integral with said supports 4, 5, 6 and 7 by means of through holes and the bolts and nuts 10 and 10 substantially as shown.

It will be noted that this construction provides for a pair of oppositely disposed pro ecting wings 11 at opposite ends of the bathing table, said wings being formed by the projection of the opposite ends of said braces 8 and 9, and thereby constituting a means for resting the bathing table upon the opposite longitudinal edges of an ordi' nary bath tub.

In my improved bath table construction the supports 6 and 7 are provided with slidable means for increasing the width of the device at its base, as when-it is desired to cause the same to fit snugly upon a bath tub. As shown in the drawings, said slidable means consists of the slidable members 12 having the slots 12 engaging the threaded bolts 13 in engagement with the through holes 13 in said supports 6 and 7 respectively, and the thumb-nuts 14 engaging the threaded end of said bolts 13 enable said slidable members to be securely locked in position when adjusted as desired.

In adjusting said slidable members 12 to a desired position upon said supports 6 and 7, the loosening of said thumb nuts 14 permits the slidable adjustment of said slidable members 12 upwardly or downwardly as needed to accommodate the width of a bath tub, as shown by the dotted lines 15.

It may, in some instances be found necessary to provide additional slidable members on the supports 4 and 5, in case of an extra wide bath tub, though it will be obvious, however, that such additional slidable members will in no way detract from the practicability of the invention.

As shown particularly in Fig. 1 in the drawings, the supports 4, 5, 6 and 7 are adapted to fold against the under surface of the top 1 for convenience in adapting the bath table to a minumum space when not in use. the dotted lines 16 and 16 describing the folding operation.

The supports 4 and 6 being in integral engagement with the brace 8, and the supports 5 and 7 being in integral engagement of the frames 3 and the normally upper llil end of the supports 3, 4, 6 and 7 constitute means for the swingable movement or folding of said folding units;

Having described my invention what I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a bathing table, a top having a portion thereof formed in a fixed curve to support the body of an infant while being 'washed, :1 pair of longitudinally extending frame members forming said curve, slats fixedly mounted at spaced intervals on and extending transversely across said pan' of frame members, so porting means on said frame members, ai supporting means comprising two pairs of supporting members arranged to be swingably secured at their upper end to opposite ends of said frame members, a brace member integrally mounted on and extending transversely across each of said pairs of supporting members, said brace members being formed at their opposite extremities into projecting wings to fit upon the-longitudinal edges of an ordinary bath tub, adjustable means on two or each of said supporting members for increasing the width of the bath table at its base to meet the requirements of wider bath tubs, said means comprising slidable membcrs operating by means of bolts extending laterally through said supporting members and slidably engaging elongated slots in said slidable members, stop means for said supporting members comprising a cross strip mounted on the under surface and at the opposite extremities of said frame members.
