Be it known that I, LANDIS H. Wm'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table Attachments for Bathtubs, of which the fo lowing is a specification.

The invention relates to attachments for bath tubs, and has for its object to provide a horizontally disposed table supported by the outer side of the bath tub, and by the wall adjacent the inner side of the bath tub, and on which table infants may be placed, bathed and dressed in a position where water within the tub may be easily reached for the bathing operation.

A further object is to provide the table at one side thereof with adjusting means whereby when the supporting legs are in engagement with the outer side of the tub, the device may be accommodated to different widths of tubs, which necessarily will vary the distance of the wall'adjacent the tub from the outer side of the tub.

A further object is to provide the under side 'of the table with hinged supporting legs substantially V-shaped and provided with inset portions for receiving the outer side of the tub, said supporting legs being foldable onto each other under the table, thereby allowing the device to be folded into a compact package for storage or shipping purposes. Also to provide the vertical portions of the supporting legs with pivotally connected braces, the upper ends of which are provided with angularly disposed arms adapted to be received in apertures of the frame of the table for bracing and holding said legs rigidly when in engagement with the side of a tub, said braces, when the device is collapsed, fold into position substantially in the same plane as the legs, thereby allowing the device to be folded into a compact package.

A further object is to provide the inner side of the table top with outwardly adjustable rods for engaging a wall, which rods extend through eyes of eye bolts, and are clamped in adjusted positions by means of thumb nuts carried by said eye bolts.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a conventional form of bath tub, 2 the outer side thereof and 3 the inner side. The bath tub is disposed adjacent a wall 4 in the usual manner. It has been found in bathing infants that the operation is extremely diflicult, and often a dangerous one, especially in bath tub. To facilitate the bathing and dressing operation a table 5 is provided, which table is disposed above the bath tub at a convenient height, wherebyit will not be necessary to lean over a great distance while bathing and dressing the infant. The table 5 comprises a rectangular shaped frame 6 which surrounds a board 7. The board 7 may be formed from any kind of material. however is preferably formed from stiff fibre board, and on which board the infant is placed during a washing and dressing operation, and consequently is supported oven the tub where water may be easily reached for sponging and bathing the infant. Hingedly connected at 8 to the inner opposite sides of the frame 6 are V- shaped supporting legs-9, which legs have their vertical portions 10 outwardly disposed and provided with inset portions 11,

thereby forming horizontally disposed arms- 12 for engaging the upper side of the outer side 2 of the tub, and supporting the outer side of the table 5. To prevent outward or inward movement of the V-shaped legs 9 after.

they have been moved to vertical positions for supporting the table top, the pivoted braces 13 are moved to positions where they will incline upwardly inwardly towards each other, thereby allowing their angularly shaped ends 14 to be received in apertures 15 in the frame 6 as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 5, therefore it will be seen that the legs will be rigidly brand. The braces 13 are provided with coiled portions 16, which surround the vertical portions 10 of the shaped legs, and are held against axial movement by means of pins 17 which extend through the portions 10 of the legs at the upper and lower sides of the coiled portions 16. When the legs are folded onto each other in engagement with the under side of the table top 5 as shown in Figure 3, the braces 13 are also folded to position in engagement with the under side of the table top, and substantially in the same plane as the V-shaped legs, therefore it will be seen that the device may be folded into a compact package for shipping and storage purposes, and Will require very little room. The V-shaped legs and the braces 13 are preferably formed from relatively heavy wire, thereby allowing the device to be cheaply manufactured and sold.

The inner side of the table top 5 is disposed adjacent the wall 4:, however it is obvious that bath tubs vary in width, and to accommodate the device to bath tubs of various widths, adjustable wall engaging rods 18 are provided, which rods may be adjusted inwardly and outwardly according to the distance of the wall 4 from the outer side 2' of the bath tub, therefore it will be seen that the device may be adjusted for supporting'the table 5 in a horizontal plane when applied to bath tubs of difierent widths. The wall engaging rods 18 extend through eyes 19 of eye bolts 20, which eye bolts extend through opposite sides of the table top frame 6 and are provided with thumb nuts 21, which thumb nuts when tightened securely clamp the rods 18 against the blocks 22 in the corners of the frame, which blocks are preferably recessed at 23 to allow a more perfect clamping operation and freedom of movement of the eyes 19 during the clamping operation. It will be noted that the table is supporting entirely by the wall 4 and the outside 2 of the tub,

and by supporting the inner side of the table against the Wall, special supporting legs for engaging the inner side of the tub are obviated, which is particularly advantageous where the inner side of the tub is 1m edded in the wall, and consequently can not be used for supporting a table.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 2-- 1. The combination with a wash tub disposed adjacent the wall, the outer wall of the wash tub, of a table, means for supporting said table, said means comprising hingedly mounted legs carried by the under side of the table and supporting one end of the table on the outer side of the wash tub, said legs being foldable against the under side of the table, and outwardly adjustable means carried by one side of the table and cooperating with the wall whereby the table is SUIXOI'tGCl in a horizontal position.

2. wash tub table comprising a platform, V-shaped legs hingedly connected to the under side of the platform and foldable onto each other and adapted to engage one side of a bath tub, pivoted braces carried by said legs at their outer ends, said braces being provided with angularly disposed arms adapted to be received in recesses of the platform, said legs being foldable onto the under side of the platform, outwardly adjustable rods carried by one end of the platform, said rods engaglng the wall adjacent the bath tub, and in combination with the legs supporting the platform.

3. A bath tub table comprising a platform, hingedly connected V-shaped supporting legs carried by said platform and foldable onto the underside of the platform and adapted to receive one side of a bath tub, pivoted braces carried by said legs and cooperating with the latform and foldable onto the under side of the platform, and out wardly and inwardly adjustable wall engaging members carried by one end of the platform.
