Description

Patented dan., 23, 1923 warren srepl'tl WILLIAM F. SULLIVAN, 0F KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
v J' ANITOR S STAND.
Application filed March 6,
To all whom it may concer-n: 4
Be it known that I, WYILLI'AM F. SULLrvnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county 4of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Janitors Stands, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, vand exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itapjjjertains to malte 'and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to washing lfurniture and particularly to a janitors stand, the construction illustrated beino' especially designed for washing windows.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a novel, conveniently operated stand which will particularly lend itself for use las a stand for janitors whereby the janitor may more conveniently have access to the windows or walls to be washed, renovated or provided with any other appropriate treatment.
The peculiarly novel features of the invention will be referred to in detail hereinafter, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a stand constructed in accordance with my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a detail view of one of the brace ends The base of the stand consists of sides 1. and 2, ends 3 and 4, and a bottom 5. The base is supported by standards 6, 7, 3 and 9 in the form of angles, the lower ends of which project below the base to hold it away from the floor or other support, and the upper ends extend a considerable distance above the base and carry bolts 1.0. which are adapted to project thrmigh any of a series of openings 11 in the standard extension mem-v bers 12, which are fastened to the respective en ds of the platform 13 through the medium of the bolts and the perforations in the standards and their supplemental members.
The platform 13 can be raised `or lowered with respect to the base. g
The sides of the base are provided with supplemental walls 14 and 15 to provide pockets for rags, brushes and the like and the hollow base is provided with a hinged cover 16, having a hasp 17 through which 1922. serial No. 541,566.
the staple 18 on the step 19 may pass and if desired, the cover can be locked by passing .the shaclrl'eof a lock through it. The step 19 supported by @shaped brackets 2O and 21, thel upper lateral arms of which assist in supporting the step 19 and the lower lateral feet of which rest upon the ground or `support so that when the operator steps upon the step 19, liability of tilting of the stand will be prevented. j
The platform 13 is provided with a bail 22, by means of which the operator may carry the stand.
At one edge of the platform 13 are two upstanding beams or standards 23` and 24, hinged to the platform 13 by the hinges 25 and 26. These standards support a hinged table 27, the table being hinged at 28 and 29 to the upper ends of the standards 23 and 24. The hinges are on the outside of the faces of the standards 23 and 24 so that there will be an overlapping portion 30 for the table 11, which may bear against the ends of the standards 23 and 24 when they In order that the table may beheld in its `proper position, brace rods 31 and 32 are provided. The brace rods are swingingly connected at 33 to the table 27 and have at their other ends hook-shaped portions 34,
desired to collapse I i be folded l forwardly, that is, toward the edge 36 of the platform 13, and the table can be folded down upon theupper faces of the standards 23 and 24. i
rlthe stand will be relatively low then but it can be made lower by adjusting the legs or members 12 with. respect to their complementar-y members 6, 7, 8 and 9; The device will then be in its collapsed position and can be readily transported through the medium of the bail 22.
When it is desired, however, to extend the stand, the standards or beams 23 and 24 can be swung upwardly to the position shown in Fig. 1 and the brace rods 31 and 32 can be caused to assume thepositions shown in Fig'. l whereby ai rigid structure will be provided. The operator may jchen Step upon the Step 19, upon the platform 13A and Work With the tools, buckets or the like upon the table 27.
If desired7 e cloth rack 37 may be provided in the edge of the table 27 and a. brush hook 3S may be provided on one standard 23 or 24:, these being non-essentials, however, and may be omitted if desired.
1n order lo prevent Jche Weight on the table 2T from tipping over the stand, l may pro- Vide feet' 39.
Vilhet l claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
l. A stand of vthe class described com- ?,rising a base, standards carried by the bese, a platform adjuetebly connected to said standards, hinged standards on the platform,
a table carried by the hinged Standards, and
Ineens for holding the platform, hinged standards and the table rigid with respect to one another.
QJA stand of the class described coinprising a, bese, stendards carried by the base,
a platform supported by the standards, hinged Standards carried by one edge of jche platform, a, hinged table carried at the upper `ends of the hinged standards, and brace rods forno a table carried by J@he hinged stend-y ards, and means for holding the platform, hinged standards and the table rigid with respect to each other.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature.
