HENRY POND. OF NEVADA, MISSOURI.
COOLING: BOARD FOR- CHILDREN.
Application filed February 26, 1823.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY POND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nevada, in the county of Vernon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooling Boards for Children, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention. relates to a cooling board for children and it has for its object to provide an improved device of this character which will be of simple and economical construction, will be light and easily portable and will be so arranged that when in folded condition the space between the two folded body portions constitutes a receptacle for the reception of the sheets and other paraphernalia of the undertaker.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which follows.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a portable and collapsible cooling board constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is side elevation of the device in folded condition.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing 5 and 6 desig unto the two body sections of the cooling board which are hingedly connected to each other at 7 by an offset hinge of such a nature that when the two sections 5 and 6 are folded upon each other, as illustrated in Fig. 3 they will lie in spaced relation, so that the sheets and other paraphernalia of the undertaker may be placed between them in transporting the cooling board to the place of use. Leg sections 6 and 7' are hinged at 8 and 9 to the sections 5 and 6, respectively. Foldable braces 10 and 11 are hinged to the leg section '6 and 7' and to the body sections 5 and 6 and hold the leg sections in supporting position in a usual and well known way. Head and foot posts 12 and 13, which, together with cross bars 14 and 15, constitute the head and foot sections are pivotally connected with the body sections 5 and 6 at 16 and 17, respec- Serial No. 621,352.
tively. The lower ends of the head and foot sections and the upper ends of the leg sections are provided with interlocking joints 1.8 and 19. By first erecting the head and foot sections, and then bringing the leg sections to the position illustrated in Fig. 1, the leg sections are caused to lock the head and foot sections in erected position and the braces 10 and 11 serve to hold the several parts in this position.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes fairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
1. A device of the character described for the use of undertakers comprising the body portions 5 and 6 hingedly connected at their inner ends by ofisct hinges therebeneath, leg sections hingedly connected to the outer ends of said body sections at the under side thereof, braces for holding said leg sections in supporting position and head and foot sections likewise pivotally connected to said body sections, the lower ends of the head and foot sections and the upper ends of the leg sections being provided with directly engaging interlocking faces of a nature to prevent movement of the head and foot sections as long the leg sections are in supporting position.
2. A device of the character described for the use of undertakers comprising a horizontal body portion and a vertical head section and a vertical foot section hingedly connected to said horizontal body section, braces engaged with the leg sections and with the body section for holding the leg sections rigidly at right angles to the body section and directly engaging interlocking faces upon the lower end of the head section and the upper end of the leg section whereby the former is held against movement upon its hinges as long as the leg section is held in position by said brace.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ai'fix my signature.
