Description

a 25 19270 (0m 9 N. e. MACKlNNON COMBINED TABLE AND CAMP KIT Filed Sept. '7, 1926 Mar-276 Patented Oct. 25, 1927.
NEIL G. MACKINNON, 01 LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
GOMBINEDTABLE AND CAM]? KIT.
Application filed fleptember My invention is a combined table and camp kit in which a box-like structure may be opened and the legs folded therein, unfolded and extended to support a table top, this table top being the two sides of the box-like structure. I
Another object of my invention is to form the box-like structure somewhat after the style of a Gladstone bag, formed of stiff sheet material walls such as wood or metal and having opposite pairs of legs folded on opposite sides of the case. The case when open ed and the legs when unfolded form a table top with an apron extending downwardly therefrom.
A feature of the invention comprises having one pair of legs shorter than the other pair so that they may fold on top of such other pair and be the proper length to support the table in horizontal position on level ground. a
Another feature of the invention is pivoting the legs to a supporting bracket which fits in the corner of the case and braces the apron type of sides as well as the top.
My invention is illustrated in the following drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the camp kit when closed;
Fig, 2 is a perspective view of'the same when opened fiat and having the legs folded therein;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the table formed with the kit or case turned right side up and the legs extended;
Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section on the line 4- -4 of Fig. 3, in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 5 is a detail horizontal section on th line 55 of Fig. 4 in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 6 is an inverted detail perspective of the corner bracing and'the pivotal connection for the legs.
The camp kit or case is designated generally by the numeral 1 and has two s milar parts 2 and 3. Each of these have a base wall 4, op osite end walls 5, a top wall 6 and the sides which form the table top. The base walls 4 of the two parts are connected together by hinges 8 on their edge and a handle 9 and lock 10 form a means for looking and carrying the case.
Brackets 11 formed preferably of sheet metal having a base section 12 with a "rib 13 formed by a reverse bend :of the metal, a

corner right angle bend 14 and an end 15 parallel to the n are secured in each of the upper corners of the case sections and have pivot pins 16 extending through the ribs 18, the ends 15 and if desired through the top walls of the case sections.
The legs are formed of single and the legs 17 on one side are longer the legs 18 on the other side, these latter having their pivot pin 16 positioned closer to the edges or rim of the to walls 6 as shown in Fig. 4. Jointed angle races 19 are connected between the legs and the inside of the side walls 7 of the case sections and when the legs are extended form a brace for holding same r1 idly in proper position.
t will be noted, referring to Fig. 4, that the legs are inclined slightly outwardly and that the braces are slightly out of alinement so that the tendency of same is to prevent folding inwardly of the legs. On account of the legs on one end of the case section shorter than those on the other end of the case section, the legs may fold over each other as shown in Fig. 2.
When the legs are extended and the case turned upside down, a table is formed ha a top formed by the two side elements which do not need any 1 but form a sufficiently rigid ta le.
While I have not illustrated any camping equipment as being fitted in the case, it 1s to or bracing be understood that same may be packed with equipment necessary for camp purposes. Although my device forms-simple combination camp table and camp kit, it is to be understood that the eneral construction and specific details may changed without departing from the spirit thereof as set forth in the description, drawings and claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
A combined table and camp kit comprising in combiililation 1:: case having 31m similar parts, eac part avmg' a use w o to end walls, a top wall, with a side said walls, the base walls being together and the sides adapted to form a table top when the case is opened to its full extent, a bracket secured in the corners of each part adjacent the top wall and the two end walls of such part, each bracket having a base section with a rib exten dingatright angles to said section, said rib formed by a reverse bend, each bracket a a right angle corner bend and an end p 01 to the rib, the base being secured to the and other le to ellow folding of one leg over the wall and theend to the top wall of each other w en housed, .and means to brace the art a pivot pin extending throu each legs when unfolded and the case open to 1 raclxet between the rib and the saig end, a form a. table.
5 leg pivotally connectedtoeach pivot in one In testimony whereof I'ha-ve signed my of the legs in each part beinf pivo c oser name to this s ification. to the side forming the tab e top than the IL G. MACKINNON.
