Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 23, 1917. Serial No. 163,807.

To all whom it may concern:

' Be it known that I, JOHN Honnx, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Wilwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish- Washing Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof;

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in machines for washing table utensils, and is more particularly directed to the provision of a machine adapted for washing cups andother articles which are not adapted to be efficiently cleansed by disk washing machines of the type shown in Patent No. 1,159,768, granted to me November 9th, 1915.

It is rimarily the object of my invention to simp 'fy and otherwise improve the structure, and to increase the eificiency and readiness of manipulation of machines of this character.

A more specific object resides in the provision of an arrangement for washing cups or other-table articles of a shape inconvenient for individual manipulation, which com prises a means for applym jets of cleansing fluid to all ortions of a atch' of such articles where y said batch of articles may be handled as a unit in a manner procur ng an efiicient cleansing thereof, in contradlstmction to those types of machines-involving an ance with my. invention, the plane of the seciii on being indicated 'by the ,lme 1-1of ig. 2.

'A crank handle 20 is secured to an end of one of the shafts, and thus both shafts may be rotated to raise or lowerthe carrier. For locking the carrier in any desired position, a link 21 is pivoted to the outer side of the tank and has its end bifurcatedito interlockingly engage the crank handle 20, it being noted that the crank handle tends to swing upwardly at the outer side of the tank due to the weight of the carrier, and thus insures a proper inter-locking relation with the bifurcated end of the link'21. A plurality of seating ribs-22 are provided on the-bottom of the tank for preventing engagement of fluid to the interior of the tank, a loop of pipe 23 is disposed about the lower portion the carrier with said of the tank and is supplied from a laterally extending pipe section 24. Upstanding fromthis loop at each side of the tank is a pipe line 25 interrupted intermediately by a T joint 26, and having at its upperend an elhow 27 From these inner ends to provide spray heads 29, these pipes being secured in the walls of the tanks by nuts threaded on their inner ends and bearing against washers 31 between the nuts and tank. There is thus provided a vertically spaced pair of series of sprays each circumscribing the path of movement of the carrier 12.

Thus upon reciprocating the carrier to pass through these sprays, cleansing fluid is applied to all parts of the batch of table utensils carried thereby, whereby an eflicient cleansing action is procured. 7

While I have shown and described a single upstanding pipe 25 at each side wall of the tank, and a pair of spray pipes carried by each of said single pipes, it will be understood that any desired multiplicity of spray pipes and upstanding pipes may be procured, each supplied from the common pipe loop circumscribing the bottom of the tank.

It will'also be appreciated that various other changes and modifications of struc ture to meet differing conditions of use may be resorted to, without departing in any manner from the spirit of my invention, or exceeding the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A washing machine comprising a vertically elongated tank, a rectangular carrier disposed in said tank and spaced from the walls thereof, vertically disposed angle bar guide rails secured in said tank, one being slidably engaged throughout its length with each corner of said rectangular carrier, means for reciprocating said carrier Vertically within the tank, a plurality of series of spray jets carried by the walls of the tank intermediate of the limits of reciprocative movement of the carrier, eachseries of jets being disposed in a substantially common plane, and an open drain'in the bottom of said tank, whereby to prevent the accumulation of liquid in the tank from said spray ]6tS.
