Description

Feb. 20, 1962 G. HINGE BABY'S BATH Filed Sept. 30, 1959 IN VI L'N TOR. George Hinge BY ATTORNEY.
3,021,531 BABYS BATH George Hinge, 50 Gordon Ave, Campbell, Ohio Filed Sept. 30, 1959, Ser. No. 843,466
\ 3 Claims. (Cl. 4177) This invention relates to a babys bath and more particularly to a device that can be positioned on various sizes of bath tubs to form an elevated shallow water holding receptacle.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of an adjustable babys bath that may be positioned on 'a bath tub and secured against accidental collapse or displacement.
A further object of the invention the provision of a babys bath that is simple in construction and easily positioned on and adjusted to fit a bath tub.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a babys bath that occupies a minimum of space when in use and provides a relatively large water holding receptacle when in use.
The babys bath disclosed herein comprises an improvement in the art in that an extremely simple framework is provided from which a flexible water receptacle is sus pended. The framework includes oppositely disposed sidewardly extending sections adapted to rest on the pposite sides of a bath tub and means is provided for engagement against the inner sides of the bathtub to prevent displacement of the babys bath from its desired position on the bathtub.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the babys bath.
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged detail showing a portion of the device of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a vertical cross section on line 33 of FIGURE 2.
FIGURE 4 is an exploded detail with parts broken away of members used in the bath shown in FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 5 is a top plan view of a bath tub showing the babys bath in position thereon.
FIGURE 6 is a top plan view of a different bath tub showing the babys bath in position thereon.
FIGURE 7 is a top plan view of a still difierent bath tub showing the babys bath in position thereon.
By referring to the drawings and FIGURE 1 in particular it will be seen that a babys bath has been disclosed which comprises a pair of transverse frame members 10 and 11 formed of cross sectionally square tubing having a longitudinally extending slot in its lower surface as indicated by the numeral 12 in FIGURE 4 of the drawings. A pair of longitudinal frame members 13 and 14 preferably round in cross section are positioned between the transverse frame members 10 and 11 and their ends secured thereto.
By refeiring to FIGURE 4 of the drawings one of the ends of the longitudinal frame member 13 may be seen and it will be observed that a plug 15 having a threaded opening 16 centrally thereof is positioned in frictional engagement in the end of the tube comprising the longitudinally extending frame member 13. An opening is drilled transversely of the transverse frame member 11 and a bolt 17 is adapted to be positioned through the opening and threadably engaged in the threaded opening 3,521,531 Fat'ented Feb. 20, 1982 16 in the plug 15. This means of fastening is present at each of the ends of the longitudinally extending frame members 13 and 14 and it will be observed that the babys bath is therefore easily assembled after the respective frame members 10 and 11 and 13 and 14 are positioned through tubular hems 18 and 19 on the opposite ends and sides respectively of a shallow water receiving receptacle 20 which is preferably formed of lightweight rubberized fabric, sheet plastic or the like.
A drain opening 21 and plug 22 therefor are positioned in one end of the receptacle 20 which is suspended from the frame members 10 and 11 and 13 and 14 as best shown in FIGURE 1 of the drawings. The corners of the receptacle 20 are cutaway at the ends of the hems 18 and 19, as indicated by the numerals 23 to provide clearance space for the junctions of the respective frame members 10 and 11 and 13 and 14. The outermost ends of the transverse frame members 10 and 11 are provided with rubber caps 24 which rest on the top surface of the sides of a bath tub as shown in FIGURES 5, 6 and 7.
In order that the framework and the receptacle just de scribed will remain in position on the top of the bath tub, adjustable brackets 25 are movably secured to the lower surface of the transverse frame members 10 and 11, as best shown in FIGURES 2. and 3 of the drawings. By referring thereto it will be seen that each of the adjustable brackets 25 comprises an inverted L-shaped member the horizontal portion of which is apertu-red as at 26 to receive a bolt and nut assembly 27 and also provided with a pair of upstanding bosses 28 which are formed in the adjustable bracket by peening. The vertical portion of the adjustable bracket 25 has an offset end 29 which is provided with a rubber cap 3% It will thus be seen that the head of the bolt and nut' assembly 27 is positioned within the transverse frame member 10, as shown in FIGURES 2 and 3, so that the adjustable bracket 25 may be moved longitudinally of the frame member 10. The same construction is repeated on each of the transverse frame members 10 and 11 inwardly from the ends thereof so that the position of each of the four adjustable brackets 25 may be varied to suit the particular shape and width of a bath tub on which the device is positioned.
In FIGURES 5, 6 and 7 of the drawings three types of bath tubs may be seen and it will be observed that in each instance the babys bath may be suitably and safely positioned thereon. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the adjustable brackets 25 need not be reset as long as the babys bath is used on the same bath tub as they may be positioned in such relation to a particular bath tub as to insure suitable frictional engagement with the tub to maintain the babys bath safely thereon and prevent it sliding sidewardly relative thereto.
It will thus be seen that a babys bath has been disclosed which meets the several objects of the invention and having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A babys bath comprising a rectangular frame rigid frame having slotted sideward extensions at the opposite ends thereof, a rectangular flexible water receptacle having a tubular edge thereabout engaged on said frame, said tubular edge cut away at the corners of said frame, an inverted L-shaped apertured bracket located beneath each of said slotted sideward extensions, bolts having their heads in said slotted sideward extensions and engaged through said apertured brackets, nuts on said bolts holding said brackets against said slotted sideward extensions and rubber members on the outer sides of the vertical portions of said inverted L-shaped brackets.
2. A babys bath comprising a pair of transverse frame members and a pair of longitudinal frame members, the end portions of said transverse frame members being longitudinally slotted, said longitudinal frame members having apertured plugs in their opposite ends, fasteners extending through said transverse frame members and engaged in said apertured plugs, a rectangular receptacle having a sloping bottom and side walls with hems in the upper edges of said side walls, said hems engaged on said frame members, depending brackets having headed formations thereon engaged in said slotted end portions of said transverse frame members.
3. A babys bath comprising a supporting frame and a flexible water receptacle, said supporting frame comprising a pair of transverse frame members and a pair of longitudinal frame members, fasteners for securing said longitudinal frame members at their ends to spaced points on said transverse frame members inwardly from the ends of said transverse frame members, said flexible water receptacle having a bottom and side walls said side walls having hems at their uppermost longitudinal edges, said frame members extending through said hems so as to hold said flexible water receptacle in upright water retaining position, said transverse frame members being slotted longitudinally, brackets having fasteners thereon movably engaged in said slotted transverse frame members beyond the spaced points thereon at which said longitudinal frame members are secured thereto, said brackets having depending portions and cushion structures on the outer sides of said depending portions.
