4 Claims. (Cl. ----95) This invention relates to a crib attachment. More particularly, it relates to a folding crib for use as an auxiliary unit in conjunction with a regular bed. i t

An object of the present invention is to provide afsimply constructed, relatively inexpensive attachment for a bed to form a crib therewith.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a device of knockdown framework which m can be easily assembled and mounted onto a bed frame to form a crib therewith.

One further object of the presentinvention is .to provide a non-slipable attachment for a bed frame, adapted tobe knocked down and form a s compact portable unit.

Still another object of. the presentinvention is to provide an adjustable attachment, adapted to I be placed over themattress of a bed and held in fixed position relative thereto, toform a crib in 20 conjunction with said bed. e e A 1 Other objects and advantages of the present invention'will become'apparent from the detailed description of a preferred embodiment, as taken in connection, with the accompanying drawing.

Referring now to the accompanying drawing in which similar reference charactersrelate to 35 like parts throughout, a bed or cot I0 is provided having a head post I I, a. foot post I2 and side rail members l3 and I4. Adapted to fit on cross-rail members, not shown, and forming a part of the bed is a spring upon which rests a mattress I5. It 40 will be noted that the bed is of the ordinary or conventional type and is suitable for the device herein disclosed.

Adapted to be supported upon side rail members I3 and I4, is a knockdown attachment l6 as shown. 45 Said attachment comprises a plurality of vertical post members ll, l8, l9 and 20, preferably of right angular cross section, each post having vertically extending walls 2| and 22 disposed at right angles to each other. The lower terminal 50 portion 23 of each vertical member has part of wall 22 cut away as shown in the drawing, thereby affording a flat abutting surface against side rail members l3 and I4. The wall 2| of said vertical post members is provided with an inwardly ex- 55 tending terminal abutment 24 adapted to slide against the lower marginaledge of side members l3 and I4. Said abutment 24 is providedwith a threaded opening 25 into which fits a flat-headed screw member 26. Said screw member is provided at its free end with a loosely connected pivotal cup-shaped member 21 adapted to contact the lower edge of the side rail members l3 and I4 when the posts are to be fixed thereon as shown in Fig. 1.

In the above, only a group. of members constituting one-half of a row as connected with one of the vertical post members has been described. The above description, however, relates to the other rows as shown in the drawing. Interconnecting each half of the rows of telescopic members between posts l1, I8, l9 and 20 is a sleeve 4|, provided with a pair of spaced

On the inner face of each of the walls 2| and 22 of the vertical posts there is provided a snap catch 46 adapted to retain the end section 34 of each row, when the members are placed inside each other and the attachment is not in use. The sections of the upper rows when in collapsed position rest on the main member of the succeeding lower row.

In assembling the attachment above described, 50 the telescopic sections are drawn out and away from the vertical posts at right angles to each other and connected at their mid portion by means of sleeves 4|. The attach! ment rests across mattress l5 and is not easily movable when in a fixed position. e v From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be noted that I have provided a bed attachment which is of easy knockdown framework and.which can be collapsed into a compact unit particularly for traveling purposes when a regular crib would be too'bulky to carry or transport. Furthermore,

it'is easily attachable to a bed of regular size and affords protection to the child. The attachment does not slipor slide from'the bed rails and is adapted to set' off a section of'the bed for the sole use and comfort'of the child. This type of attachment savesthe buying of acrib for the child and'permits the -us e"of. a regular sized bed for the child when itbecomes older. Furthermore,

I the size of the attachment-may be varied to meet the needs of various types of beds. Also, the

attachment is of rugged, but lightand compact construction.

Whileone preferred embodiment of-rny invention has been described in connection with the accompanying drawingdt is to be understood that various changes as to'forms, size, use and arrangement of materials may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

" I claim:

1. The combination'with a bed, of a collapsible crib-attachment to form a part-thereof, having a plurality of vertical post members of angular cross section, actuable means at one terminal portionof said posts atspaced'intervals thereof for fixing said posts to the bed. to forma non-slipable auxiliary portion thereof, a plurality of superimposed rows of telescopic members having one end pivotally connected to said posts, means inter- "connecting said. sections of each row to form a framework with said posts, and means disposed inspaced relationship on said post members for retaining the collapsed telescopic members of each section in fixed position when against said post members.

2. A collapsible crib attachment for a bed and the like comprising a plurality of vertical post members of right angled cross section, each of said posts having a section of a plurality of super imposed'rows of collapsible telescopic members in pivotal connection with the post members, the end member of each section being provided with a detent, a sleeve member provided with openings for accommodating'the detents of each section ofa corresponding row, means on each post for accommodating fastening the telescopic sections when in collapsed condition, and adjustable means at the lower end of each post for fastening the same to the bed.

3. A collapsible attachment, for a bed and the like having ahead and foot post, and a pair of side rails intermediate the posts, comprising a plurality of right angled vertical posts adapted to be disposed on the side rails at the head post and at a portion intermediate the head and foot posts, a plurality of superimposed sections of rows of collapsible telescopic members, pivotally connected at one end onto one of the walls of the post to the bed rails.

4. A collapsible crib attachment adapted to be aflixed to a bed frame to form a part thereof,

-' comprising a plurality of vertical posts adapted to be disposed at spaced intervals on the frame, a pair of said posts being disposed at the head portion of the bed, and another pair being disposed intermediate the ends of the bed frame, said first pair of posts having a plurality of superimposed rows of telescopic collapsible sections pivoted thereto, adapted to be extended toward the second pair of posts, said second pair ofposts having a plurality of superimposedrows of telescopic collapsible sections pivoted thereto at right angles to each other and corresponding with the sections of the first pair of posts and'with each other, and intermediate detent means for said rows adapted to interconnect the corresponding rows of sections.
