Walsh, 31916 Rush, Garden City, Mich., and Robert Patton, 14108 Manor, Detroit, Mich. Filed Mar. 30, 1961, Ser. No. 99,536 3 Claims. (Cl. 311-17) and swingable into operative position and into inoperative position and adapted for lying on the face of the body when in inoperative position.
Another object of the invention is the provision in a tray of this class having supporting means which may be adjusted to various heights.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
It is recognized that various modifications and changes may be made in the detail of the structure illustrated without departing from the invention and it is intended that the present disclosure shall be considered to be but the preferred embodiment.
Forming a part of this application are drawings in which,
FIG. 1 is a top plan view,
FIG. 2 is a perspective view,
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG. ,1,
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
As shown in the drawings, the invention comprises a supporting body 7 having a flange 8 around the four sides thereof and provided on one of its faces with recesses 9. As shown in the drawings, rear flange 10 is formed arcuate inclining inwardly toward the center from opposite ends. Extending inwardly from this flange 10, are lugs 11 through which extends a wire 12 which project through lugs 13 formed in a plate 14 which is curved in cross section as shown in FIG. 3. This place 14 is swingable to project vertically to the body 7 when in operative position and swingable to lie upon the upper surface of the body 7 within the flanges 8 on the plate 14 when in inoperative position.
A flange 15 extends inwardly from one end of the plate 14 at the free end thereof and is provided with openings 16 through which project supporting arms 17. Each of these supporting arms 17 is provided with a curved portion 18 at the upper end thereof. The other ends of the arms 17 are threaded as at 19 and threaded on the threaded portion 19 is a nut 20. By threading the nuts upwardly or downwardly on the members 17, the structure may be adjusted for use for persons of different height. In use, the plate 14 is swung upwardly to extend vertically to the body 7 and the curved portions 8 lie over the shoulders of the user. A tray constructed in this maner may be easily and quickly positioned on the user for use, and it is such that it will hold the body 7 quite rigid to serve as a very stable support for dishes and articles of food.
What we claim is:
1. A tray comprising: a body having a flange projecting upwardly therefrom and around the perimeter thereof; lugs projecting inwardly from said flange at one side of said body; a plate swingably mounted on said lugs and adapted to lie on the face of said body within said flanges when in inoperative position and when in operative position to extend upwardly from said body; a flange on the free end of said plate having spaced apart openings formed therein; and supporting arms slidably projecting from said openings.
2. A tray comprising: a body having a flange projecting upwardly therefrom and around the perimeter thereof; lugs projecting inwardly from said flange at one side of said body; a plate swingably mounted on said lugs and adapted to lie on the face of said body within said flanges when in inoperative position and when in operative position to extend upwardly from said body; a flange on the free end of said plate having spaced apart openings formed therein; and supporting arms slidably projecting from said openings, one end of said arms being curved for engaging over the shoulder of the user.
3. A tray comprising: a body having a flange projecting upwardly therefrom and around the perimeter thereof; lugs projecting inwardly from said flange at one side of said body; a plate swingably mounted on said lugs and adapted to lie on the face of said body within said flanges when in inoperative position and when in operative position to extend upwardly from said body; a flange on the free end of said plate having spaced apart openings formed therein; and supporting arms slidably projecting from said openings, one end of said arms being curved for engaging over the shoulder of the user; the opposite end of said arms being threaded; and a nut threaded on the threaded portions of said arms for adjusting the height of the same relatively to said body.
