SERVING TABLE ADJUSTABLE AND PORTABLE Filed June 25, 1947 Inventor Albert Kruse By 2mm mug mg 8m Patented Feb. 21, 1950 SERVING TABLEADJUSTABIQE AND- .I v I PORTABLE Albert Krus e, Los Angeles, Calif. Application June 25, 1947, Serial No. 757,032
1 cla (01. 311-21) This invention relates to improvements in adjustable carriers or stands.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved form of adjustable carrier or stand which will be supported at about Waist height in front of a person for supporting suitably shaped dishes to assist an invalid or blind person to more easily and readily feed himself.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved adjustable carrier table or stand adapted to be supported at approximately waist height in front of a person.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved adjustable carrier table or stand which will be highly efficient in use, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved carrier table or stand shown in open position;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the improved carrier table or stand shown in folded position;
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the improved carrier table or stand; I
Figure 4 is a detail view of one of the turned down supporting ears at the rear end of the carrier table or stand.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved form of adjustable and portable carrier table or stand including a fiat supporting table surface generally designated by the reference numeral l, the same having its opposite ends 2 and 3 bent upwardly a silght distance to prevent dishes (not shown) when placed on the carrier table or stand from sliding or falling off of the same.
An upwardly directed transversely extending guard flange or rail 4 is hinged at 5 to the forward edge of the table surface I, being of considerably more height than the said end guard flanges or I rails 2 and 3.
raised position, the hooked outer ends of the hooks 8 and 9 will extend over said ears 6 and l to support the said flange or rail 4 in fixed position.
The opposite ends of the table surface I are cut inwardly at I l, and the supporting ears l2 are bent downwardly and formed with the aligned central aperture I3 between which and through which the cross pivot rod [4 is adapted to extend. A bearing collar [5 is adapted to be placed about the shaft or rod l4 to extend between said supthreaded at 20 to receive and support the wing locking nut 2|.
A bearing rod 22 extends through the lower ends of the spaced frame members [6 and I1,
and supports the U-shaped table bracing link 24. The ends of said links 24 are bent or looped at 25 and 26 to extend about the bearing rod 22, while the base of the link is pivotally supported in the U-shaped bearings 21 and 28 suitably secured to the lower surface of said table I.
The upper ends of said spaced frame members 16 and H are formed with apertures such as 29, which are connected by reduced or narrowed slots such as 3| with the upper ends of the slots l8 in said frame members.
The upper end links 33 of the crossed attaching and supporting chains 35 are secured in the apertures 29, while the lower end links 36 of said chains 35 are secured about the opposite ends of the bearing rod 22.
When not in use, the carrier table or stand may be folded as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
When the carrier table or stand is to be used, the 7 table surface I will be extended forwardly of the frame members I6 and H and the wing nut 2| tightened. The supporting chains 35 will then be disposed over the supporting object.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been devised and provided a highly efficient form of adjustable carrier table or stand for invalids and blind persons which will be relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted v spaced parallel frame members having longitudinally extending slotsrtherein a transverse shaft slidably retained iii-the" slots,;, at; table member: inwardly cut at" opposite" ends thereof and" having" downwardly bent apertured ears thereat, said shaft extending through said ears, a second trans verse shaft carried at the bottomtof saidframe members, a U-shaped brace secured at its ends: to said second shaft and pivotally attached at its, central portion to said table member;"upstarrdi-iig guard flanges at the edges of saim table member;
the opposite ends of said front guard flange, and hooks pivotally attached to said table member and engageable with said locking ears for holding the same in operative position.
ALBERT KRUSE.
