Application filed. November 10, 1922. Serial No. 600,115.
bonds and other valuables in public, and an object of theinvention is to provide a device of this character which may be strapped and locked to, the body of thefuser in a manner that will prevent same from being opened by unauthorized persons and which is designed as a safeguardagainst the life of the user and against pillaging or taking away by violence, the property of another from his person or against his will.
'A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which can be expeditiously applied to and locked upon the body of the person and removed therefrom by anauthorized person when theoccasion demands.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention resides in the novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter more fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in thea'ccompanying drawing, in which v Figure l'is a perspective view of the device showing same applied.
Figure 2 is a view in rear elevation of the invention applied.
box. 7
Figure 4 is a section taken approximately on line 4-4 of Figure 3. 4
Figu e 5 is a transverse sectional view of the bo In carrying the invention into practice use is made of a box or receptacle 5 consistingpreferably of two slidably connected sections 6 and 7 which, when nested together constitute a compact arrangement capable of being conveniently worn upon the person as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. The inner wall of the section 7 Figure 3 is a vertical section throughthe is curved so as to uniformly adapt itself to the curvature of that portion of the body of the wearer against, which it rests while in use. The said section 7 is provided with side ears 8, 8 slotted at 9 to co-actrwith similar slots 10in the inner wall of said section 7 and to receive therewith a flexible metal body embracing strap 11. This strap is provided at one end with a staple 12 interchangeably engageable in a series of slots;13 in the opposite end of the strap. This staple when engaged; in the desired slot 13 is connected'with the bail 14 of a key-actuated lock 15.
The'upper and loweriwalls of the section 6 and 7 are provided with openings 16 and as illustrated the openings of the section 6 register with the openings of the section 7 when both sections are'nested together. Headed bolts 17 are passed through isaid registering openings 16 in the sections 6 and.7 and as shown the lower ends of,
7 these bolts protrude for a slight distance below the base of the box or receptacle 5 and they are perforated at 18. Theheads 19 of the bolts are exposed exteriorly from the top of the box or receptacle 5 and beneath these heads and embracing the bolts are metallic rings 20 carried by certain links of a chain 21. c
The chain 21 constitutes an indestruct- 'ible body engaging harness which is adapted to be extended over the shoulders of the weareras shown in Figures 1 and 2 and to pass in a downward directionagainst the back of the wearer as shown in Figure 2.
The opposite leads or terminals of the chain are then brought forward against the sides of the wearer as shown in Figure land then engaged with the bails 22 of key actuated locks 23, the said bails being first passed through the perforations 18 in the lower ends of the bolts 17. v
When the two sections 6' and 7 are closed 2 together and engaged by the aforesaid bolts 17 and the latter associated with the terminals of the chain 21 and engaged with the locks 23 the box or receptacle 5 is firmly and positively locked to the body of the wearer.
While locking the box to the body of the wearer, the construction and arrangement of parts herein set forth operate to hold the sections of the box or receptacle 5 se-- curely locked together. "The metallic strap; 11 which is passed and locked about the body of the wearer serves to additionally 7 add a measure of security to the purpose and object of the invention and to snugly hold the box or receptacle 5, in close contact with the body of the wearer shown in Figure 1.
It is evident that'in using the invention the two sections of the box or receptacle are separated, the valuables to be transported rom one place to another are placed in the box and'the latter then strapped and positively locked to the body as previously described. The construction is such that the highest measure of security is afforded both to the life and property of the user, and the box cannot be tampered with or broken into or opened except by duly authorized persons.
and body engaging means carried by the receptacle and secured in a locked position about the body by means of said bolt.
2 A device of the class described comprising a receptacle consistmg of sections, bolts engageab-le with said sections, locking described what I deem to means engagcable with the bolts, and a harness engageable with the bolts and with the locking means.
3. A device of the class described comprising a sectional receptacle, bolts engageable with the sections, key actuated locks engageable with the bolts, and a harness engageable respectively with the bolts and with said locks.
4:. A device of the class described comprising a sectional receptacle, bolts engageab-le with the sections," key actuated locks engageable with the bolts, and a harness engageable respectively with the bolts and with said locks, one of said sections including an adjustable body embracing a band, and means for locking'the band in belt formation around the body of the wearer.
5. A device of the class described comprising asectional receptacle, bolts engage- A able with the sections, key actuated locks engageable with the bolts, and a harness engageab-le respectively with the bolts and with said locks, said harness consisting of a chain adapted to be secured in a relatively permanent position upon the body by means of said locks.
6. A device of the class described comprising a metallic receptacle, means torlo cking the receptacle against opening, said means including a bolt carried by said inetallic receptacle, and a metallic harness connected with said bolt and secured thereby in a fixed position upon the body of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
GEORGE VVIITY.
