Description

C. A. COTTLE.
CARRIER FOR EXPLOSIVES APPLICATION FILED NOV. 18. 1919 Patented July 13, 1920.
INVENTOR 6. A. 60122}:
WITNESSES A TTORNEYS CHARLES A. COTTLE, OF EDWARDSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
CARRIER FOR EXPLOSIVES.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1920.
Application filed November 18, 1919. Serial No. 338,873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. Co'rTLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Edwardsville, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers for Explosives, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in carriers for explosives, and has for its object to provide a carrier of the character specified, adapted to receive a number of sticks of explosive, and having means for locking the carrier against unauthorized opening.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improved carrier,
Fig. 2 is a side view,
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the present embodiment of the invention, a cylindrical casing is provided, consisting of a body 1 having one end closed as indicated at 2, and the casing'is completed by a cover consisting of a cylindrical body 3 having one end closed as indicated at 4. This body portion 3 of the cover is of suflieient diameter to fit over the open end of the casing 1-2 as shown in Fig. 2, and means is provided for locking the cover to the body of the casing.
The said means comprises a staple 5 on the cover 34- and a hasp 6 which is hinged to the body portion of the casing as indicated at 7, and which is adapted to engage over the staple in the manner shown. The
ried by the body and the cover,
shackle of a padlock 8 is passed through the staple to lock the parts together, and it will be obvious that when so locked the cover cannot be removed from the casing to permit unauthorized access to the explosive.
A strap is provided for carrying the easing, the said strap consisting of two portions 9 and 10, which are connected by a buckle 11. The portion 9 of the strap is secured to a snap hook 12 which is connected with the staple 5, and the portion 11 of the strap has a snap hook 13.
In use, the explosive is held in the easing, which may be supported over the shoulder by the strap 9 10. When it is desired to remove the explosive, the padlock is released and the cover is removed. The improved carrier may be made of any desired material and a miners check may be fastened to the staple 14 with which the snap hook 13 is connected. As shown, the easing is suitably ornamented.
I claim A device of the character described comprising a cylindrical casing including a body closed at one end and open at the other end, and a cover telescopically engaging over the open end of the body, staples car a hasp pivoted upon the body and engageable over the staple on the cover, and a strap connected with said staples and serving as a handle, the connection of the strap with the staple on the cover also preventing disengagement of the hasp therefrom.
