Description

June 5, 1951 H. G. PARSONS 2,555,810
BRUSH PROTECTOR Filed Jan. 16, 1946 Patented June 5, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRUSH PROTECTOR Herman G. Parsons, Nashville, Ohio Application January 16, 1946, Serial No. 641,566
2 Claims. (Cl. 248-110) The invention as described herein, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, consists of a brush protector, an object of which is to provide means whereby a paint or other brush may be suspended in a cleansing liquid without injury to the brush.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hanger for a brush of substantially the size and form thereof and so arranged that the bristles of the brush will lie flat upon the hanger and the ends of the bristles held out of contact with the bottom of a container within which the device is seated.
A primary object of the invention is the provision of means whereby a brush will not beseated upon the ends of its bristles.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the device,
Figure 2 is a sectional View of a container and a modified form of the device, illustrating the use of the invention, and
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
While two embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the above referred to drawings, it is to be understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the invention may be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of the device, which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claims. And while there is stated the primary field of utility of the invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein it may be found applicable.
In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specification, the same reference characte rs are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which It refers to the invention in its entirety and II indicates a container of a preserving fluid for a paint brush l2. The brush protector I consists of a fiat panel I4 somewhat tapered to the contour of the brush and provided with side wings l5 and [6. The upper edge I! of the panel l4 tapers up to a handle 18 at the base of which is attached by lock nuts I 9 and 20, a screw pin 2|, upon which the brush l2 may be suspended by means of a bore 22 through the head 23 of the brush slightly above the ferrule 24 of the brush. The handle I8, is provided with a bore 25, whereby it may be hung up when not in use.
' It is obvious that the wings may be extended down below the edge 26 of the panel in order to 2 form feet 21 and 28, for a further precaution to keep the brush out of contact with the bottom 29 of the container H, as indicated particularly in Figure 2 of the drawings.
From the foregoing specification it will become apparent that the invention disclosed will adequaately accomplish the functions for which it has been designed and in an economical manner and that its simplicity, accuracy and ease of operation are such as to provide a relatively inexpensive device considering what it will accomplish and that it will find an important place in the art to which it appertains when once placed on the market.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection. with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described the invention that which is claimed as new and desired to be procured by Letters Patent is:
l. A paint brush holder comprising a flat panel formed with an upwardly extending integral handle, said panel having forwardly extending downwardly slanting side wings, said wings extending beneath said panel and forming integral supporting feet adapted to support said holder and a brush thereon in vertical position, said handle having an aperture, a paint brush supporting screw pin adjustably supported in said aperture, whereby a paint brush may be supported in a container with the lower end of the brush in spaced relation above the lower end of said supporting feet.
2. A unitary brush holder comprising a vertical panel, side wings integrally secured to the side edges of said panel and on the same side thereof, said wings depending below said panel to l comprise feet, and brush retaining means secured on said panel and comprising a pin extending normal to the panel and on the same side of the panel as said wings.
