Description

BROOM HANGER Filed Nov. 2, 1946 Inventor Patented May 2, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in broom hangers and more particularly to a device which is attached to the upper end of a broom, mop etc, and thereby allows the broom to be hung in a, vertical position against a supporting structure.
A further feature of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes of which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invention attached to the upper end of a broom handle,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the cup member,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the cup member and attaching screw,
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view thereof,
Figure 5 is a front view of a conventional hook member,
Figure 6 is a front view of the invention in modified form attached to the upper end of a broom handle,
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on line 1-1 in Figure Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 represents an inverted cup of metallic material having a downwardly extending screw represented generally at 6 fastened in any suitable manner to the center and inner surface of the cup, said screw having a shoulder 1 below the lower circular edge 8 of the cup. A washer 9 is placed on the threaded end I of the screw so that the washer will bear against the shoulder when the threaded end of the screw is embedded in the upper end of a broom handle H or the like as shown in Figure 1.
The device is attached to the upper end of a broom and the lower edge of the cup rests slightly above the upper end of the broom handle to provide a space 12, and the edge of the cup is then placed over a conventional hook l3 that is secured to a supporting surface M. In this position the broom rests vertically against the supporting surface and off the floor.
A modified construction of the device as shown in Figures 6 and 7 illustrates a cap member open at its lower end to allow same to be placed over the upper end of a broom l6 and fastened thereto by a, nail I! that extends through the cap and into the upper end of the broom handle.
Projecting upwardly from the upper surface of cap I5 is an upwardly tapering shank I8. The upper end [9 of shank I8 is secured in any suitable manner to the inner surface of inverted cup member 23. The shank I8 is of such height that the lower edge 2! of cup member 20 is slightly above the upper surface of cap I5 to provide a space 22, thereby allowing a conventional hook to engage the lower edge of the cup.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A broom hanging device comprising a sleeve for receiving one end of a, broom handle, fastener means for removably securing said sleeve to a broom handle, a closure plate integrally formed at one end of said sleeve, a substantially frustoconical supporting lug having its base fixedly secured to said closure plate, and a concaveconvex hook engaging member rigidly secured to said lug, the open end of said hook engaging meinber being spaced parallel to said closure pla e.
2. A broom hanging device comprising a sleeve for receiving one end of a broom handle, a fastener for removably securing said sleeve to a broom handle, a closure plate integrally formed at one end of said sleeve, a lug rigidly secured to and projecting outwardly from said closure plate, and an inverted cup-like member rigidly secured to said lug and having a peripheral flange for receiving a hook, the flange of said member being spaced from said closure plate.
