Patented Feb. 10, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER.
Michael Elias ElzeenLorain, Ohio Application February 28, 1941, Serial No. 381,188
1 Claim.
This invention relates broadly to holders for bottles, and more particularly to such holders as are designed especially for holding or supporting a nursing bottle.
An object of the present invention is to improve generally upon such nursing bottle holders as are now known and used, and to provide for the supporting of the bottle in a most eflicient manner while the infant is nursing therefrom, and with little or no danger of the bottle becoming loose from the holder, or the holder becoming displaced as might in any wise injure the infant.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure l is a side elevational view of the holder and illustrating the manner of using the same.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the holder with the bottle mounted thereon.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an elevational view of the nursing bottle with a sack therefor applied to the bottle and shown in longitudinal section.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail view, partly in section and partly in elevation and illustrating the manner of pivotally securing the clip to the shiftable section of the standard forming part of the holder.
Referring more in detail to the drawings it will be seen that in the preferred embodiment thereof the holder is characterized by a base 5 formed of any suitable material and of any desired edge configuration.
Secured to the base 5 adjacent one end thereof is a weight-plate 5, and disposedover the plate 6 is a dome-shaped cover-plate or formation 1 which at its base edges is secured through the medium of screws or other fastening elements 1' to a flange 8 rising from the marginal edge of the base 5.
The weight-plate 5 is formed with an integral socket 9 into which is fitted the lower end of a tubular standard section ill.
The standard section In is slightly curved adjacent its upper end as shown and telescopically receives a sliding or adjustable standard section II that is secured at the desired position of adjustment relative to the standard section II) through the medium of a thumb-screw I2.
A substantially U-shaped spring clip I3 i provided and the same at the bight thereof is riveted or otherwise secured as at M to a yoke 15.
The legs of the-yoke straddle a lug it formed integral with the upper or free end of the standard or post section I I, and th yoke I5 is pivoted to said lug l6 through the medium of a bolt I I equipped with a wing-nut l8 as shown. Thus it will be seen that the yoke I5 may be swung to any desired angle relative to the standard section H and by threading home the wing-nut l8 secured in the position of adjustment in order that the bottle-engaging clip l3 may be secured at the desired angle to the perpendicular.
Preferably the spring-clip I3 has sheathed thereon a tubular covering IQ of felt or other suitable material.
Also in accordance with the present invention, and in order to maintain the contents of the nursing bottle at the desired temperature for a considerable period of time, there is provided for the bottle 20 a bag or sack 2| in which the bottle 20 conformably fits.
At the mouth or open end thereof the covering sack 2! for the bottle is provided with a drawstring 22 to permit the mouth of the sack or bag to be contracted about the neck of the bottle as shown.
A salient feature of the present invention is the provision of the weight-plate 8 and its position on the base 5. By providing and so locating the plate 6 sufiicient anchoring weight for the holder is assured to counter-balance the weight of the nursing bottle 20 and its contents and thus minimize the possibility of the holder, together with the bottle thereon falling over, and permitting use of the holder, to advantage, when positioned on such unstable supporting surface as a pillow or the like at the side of the head of the infant or where most convenient for the infant.
It will also be apparent that the clip l3 may be swung readily in one direction to position the nipple-equipped end of the bottle as to place the same convenient to the infant, or, when the bottle has been emptied of its contents, swung in an opposite direction to position the bottle away from and out of reach of the infant, thus guarding against the infant sucking on the nipple of the bottle when the latter is emptied of its contents. 4
The above and many other advantages of a nursing bottle holder embodying the features of the present invention will be readily appreciated by those skilled inthe art.
While I have herein illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that I claim all such forms of the invention to which I am entitled in view of the prior art and scope of the appended claim. Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A nursing bottle holder comprising a relatively large fiat base having a flange at its side and rear portions extending upwardly and inwardly,
. located under the rear portion of the hood with the edge portion of the weight plate contacting an adjacent portion at the lower part or the hood, the front central portion of the weight plate having a socket therein. a standard having its lower part passing through the hood with its lower end fastened in the socket. the upper portion of the standard curving upwardly and forwardly. said standard being oi. tubular form, a rod having a sliding lit in the upper portion 0! the standard, means for holding the rod in adjusted position. the upper end of the rod being flattened, a yoke-shaped member having its limbs embracing the flattened part, a bolt passing through the flattened part and the lower ends of the limbs for adiustably holding the yoke to the upper end of the rod and a U-shaped member having the central part of its bight fastened to the bight oi the yoke and adapted to hold a nursing bottle.
