BATHTUB GRI P Filed March 6. 1931 INVENTOR Jos epb HYerm/ershausen ATTORN EYS Patented Oct. 13, 1931 PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH H. GERMERSHAUSEN, OF PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY BATHT'UB GRIP Application filed March 6,
This invention relates to bathtub grips and has for an object to provide an improved construction which may be readily applied and readily removed at any time, the structure being such thatwhen in use it presents a ready handle whereby a person may exert strain thereon when moving from a. sitting to a standing position in a bathtub.
Another object of the invent-ion is to provide a bathtub grip wherein means are pro- Vvided for clamping part of a valve whiler allowing a portion to be swingably presented to a person using the tub whereby the person may grasp the device and pull on the same when moving from a sitting to a standing position.
A further object, more specifically, is to provide a bathtub grip which presents a clamping ring to which is pivotally connected an arm or rod having a handle to grip formed thereon and shaped to be readily grasped by a person using the bathtub when the device is in use so that a person may pull on the device when moving from a sitting to a standing position.
In the accompanying drawings-n Figure l is a perspective view showing part of a bathtub and wall together with the grip embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view on an enlarged scale of the grip shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numeral, l indicates a bathtub of any desired kind provided with a spigot or spout 2 forming an extension of the valve. These features are old and well known. A clamping ring 3 is positioned around part of the spout 2 and clamped thereto by the clamping screws 4 and 5. It will be evident that the device could be clamped to some other fixture if the same were more convenient. The ring 3 consists of ring sections 3 and 3, each having ears 6 and 7 for accommodating the screws 4L and 5. It will be noted that screw is longer than screw 4 and that the ears 7 are spaced apart so as to receive the apertured enlargement 8 therebetween, said enlargement being preferably integral with the arm or rod 9. By reason of this structure, the arm or rod 9 may swing upwardly 1931. Serial No. 520,651.
and downwardly freely. This is desirable so that when not actually grasped by a person, it may hang down vertically and therefore be out of the way. The outer end of the rod 9 is preferably formed with an integral handle or grip structure 10 which is adapted to be grasped by the hand as shown in Figure l when the device is being used.
n many bathtubs now in use, the same are so formed as to make it diiicult to grasp any edge or part thereof to rise from a sitting to a standing position in the tub. In view of this fact, many persons have been injured by falling, and different forms of grips have been heretofore provided to overcome this difficulty. In the present invention, a removable grip is presented which has a gripping member or head to be swung out of the way when not in use. Also, it will be observed that the device is removably connected in place and therefore is not a permanent fixture, but may be used or removed as desired.
I cla-im:
l. A bathtub grip comprising a clamp adapted to clamp a bathtub fixture, said clamp comprising a pair of arc-shaped members having ears at each end, al clamping screw extending through the respective pairs of ears, a rod swingably mounted on one of said screws and a hand grip merging into said rod at the outer end thereof.
2. A bathtub grip comprising a clamping member adapted to grip a bathtub fixture and a swingable member mounted on said clamping member, said swingable member normally assuming a vertical position under the action of gravity, but capable of being m'oved into a horizontal position when in use, said swingable member comprising an enlarged apertured pivot member, a rod eX- tending therefrom, and a hand gripping head merging into said rod at the outer end.
