2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in hooks and is directed particularly to improvements in hooks for paint receptacles and cans.
The principal object is directed to the provivision of a hook device which is attached for clamping to and supporting a paint can and is characterized by means whereby the can may be supported from a ladder or the like.
With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a hook device of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the hook device shown in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the hook device shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will now be described.
In a broad way the device of the invention includes a hook 2 and a clamp 4 and the same may be made from various materials and in various sizes and proportions, all as may be desired.
The clamp 4 has a horizontal part 6 and portions 8 and Ill depending therefrom. An inner jaw l2 on the portion 8 extends inwardly in more or less parallelism with the portion 6 and its inner end is concaved at M, as shown in Fig. 3. The portion ID will be referred to as an outer jaw.
The hook 2 has an upper end which is curved at l6 as shown in Fig. 2 and alower clamp portion I8 which is in threaded engagement with the portion l of the clamp 4.
A can is represented at C which may be a paint can and the jaw portion l2 of the clamp engages the inner side of its side wall 20. The hook member is rotated until the end of the threaded clamp portion l8 thereof engages the wall 2!] and presses the same against the inner end of the jaw portion I2. In this way the can is clamped by the device which supports it.
The clamp device being secured to the can after the manner described may in turn be supported by any suitable means. The curving end l6 of the hook, however, provides a means for hooking over the rung of a ladder or the like. In that way the can is suitably supported in the desired position.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein. 7
What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. As a new article of manufacture a two-part device for suspending a paint can from the runs of a ladder or the like comprising, a strip of metal formed to provide a clamp having an upper horizontal portion and inner and outer end portions extending downwardly therefrom with a jaw portion extending forwardly from the inner end portion towards the outer end portion, the horizontal portion adapted to overlie the rim of a can wall and the end of the jaw portion adapted to abut the inner side of the can wall below said rim with the outer end portion disposed outside said wall and spaced therefrom, said outer end portion provided with a tapped hole, and a hook member formed to have a threaded horizontal portion in engagement with said tapped hole and a vertical portion extending therefrom having a curving hook end, the end of the horizontal portion of the hook member and the end of the law portion adapted to clamp the wall of a can therebetween.
2. As a new article of manufacture a two-part device for suspending a paint can from the rung of a ladder or the like comprising, a strip of metal formed to provide a clamp having an upper horizontal portion and inner and outer end portions extending downwardly therefrom with a jaw portion extending forwardly from the inner end portion towards the outer end portion, the horizontal portion adapted to overlie the rim of a can wall and the end of the jaw portion adapted to abut the inner side of the can wall below said rim with the outer end portion disposed outside said wall and spaced therefrom, said outer end portion provided with a tapped hole, and a hook member formed to have a threaded horizontal portion in engagement with said tapped hole and a vertical portion extending therefrom having a curving hook end, the end of the horizontal portion of the hook member and the end of the jaw portion adapted to clamp the wall of a can therebetween,
