Description
ep 1967 A. M. WRIGHT BABY BATH PAD Filed Nov. 19, 1964 United States Patent 3,341,866 BABY BATH PAD Alice Maude Wright, Chicago, Ill. (6589 Duke St., Riverside, Calif. 92506) Filed Nov. 19, 1964, Ser. No. 412,387 2 Claims. (Cl. 4185) This invention relates to bath tub inserts and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a baby bath pad which will not slide or skid in the bath tub while an infant is being bathed.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a baby bath pad which will be made of flexible rubber and will have a sponge rubber filled pillow, to keep the babys head raised, and the pad will allow the mother to use both hands to bathe the infant.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a baby bath pad which will have rolled edges to keep the arms of the infant from striking the sides of the cold surfaces of the tub.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a baby bath pad of the above mentioned type which, when not in use, may be rolled up and easily stored for travelling.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a baby bath pad bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efilcient in operation and use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the present invention shown partly broken away;
FIGURE 2 is a bottom plan view of the invention; and
FIGURE 3 is a cross sectional view taken along the lines 33 of FIGURE 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a baby bath pad made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a rubber member 12 of flat, rectangular configuration having its long edges 14 rolled to aid in preventing the infants arms from touching the cold surfaces. Baby bath pad 10 is provided with a plurality of equally spaced apart suction cups 1-6 on the underside which are molded with rubber member 12, and suction cup 16 provides a means for securing pad 10 within the tub 17 without sliding. Pad 10 is provided with a grommet 18 through one end to provide a means for hanging it when it is not in use. The top surface 20 of pad 10 is serrated to prevent the baby from slipping in any direction, and the upper end of pad 10 is provided with a hollow rubber pillow 22 which is filled with foam rubber 24 to provide a means for raising the infants head and allowing the infants head to be comfortable while the infant is being bathed.
In use, pad 10 is placed into bath tub 17 or within a bathinette and rubber member 12 is pressed downward over its entire area to force the air from within the suction cups 16, thus allowing suction cups 16 to secure rubber member 12 in position so that it will not slide. The baby is placed upon the serrated surface 20, and its 3,341,866 Patented Sept. 19, 1967 head is placed upon the pillow 22 so that the mother may easily bathe the infant.
It should be recognized that the underside of rubber member 12 of pad 10 may be serrated also to eliminate the need for suction cups to prevent the pad from sliding within the tub.
While various changes may be made in the detail const-ruction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A baby bath pad, comprising in combination, a rectangular flexible rubber member providing a resting surface for an infant, a plurality of equally spaced apart suction cups moulded upon the underside of said rectangular rubber member providing a means for securing the pad within a bathtub or other device, a pillow moulded with said rubber member to provide a comfortable head support for said infant, the upper surface of said rectangular rubber member being moulded with a plurality of raised serrations to prevent said infant from sliding upon said surface, the elongated parallel side edges of said rectangular rubber member being provided with an upwardly rolled head to aid in preventing said infants arms or legs from striking the cold surfaces of said tub, said rectangular rubber member of said pad being provided with a grommet which is secured in one end of said rubber member, said grommet providing a means for receiving a nail or other support means to allow said pad to be hung up when not in use, said grommet further providing a means for air to circulate on all surfaces of said pad in order that it may quickly dry when suspended by said grommet, said pillow being moulded to the upper surface of said pad adjacent one end of said serrated surf-ace and providing a means for raising the head of said infant comfortably, said pillow comprising a solid rubber covering enclosing a foam rubber mass to cushion the head of said infant, said pillow extending between said rolled beads of said edges and being arcuately curved for maximum comfort, the upper surface of said pillow flaring downwardly at the back flush with said one end of said rubber member to provide a neat and attractive appearance and flaring downwardly at the front and joining the serrated surface at a sharp angle to permit the bath pad to be easily rolled up when not in use.
2. A baby bath pad comprising a flexible member, formed of rubber or a rubbery material, providing a resting surface for an infant, a plurality of suction cups moulded upon the underside of said flexible member providing a means for securing the pad within a bathtub or the like, and a pillow moulded with said flexible member to provide a head support for said infant, the upper surface of said flexible member being at least partially ribbed to help prevent said infant from sliding thereupon, the side edges of said flexible member being provided with upwardly rolled beads to aid in preventing said infants limbs from striking a cold surface of support for the bath pad in use, and said flexible member being provided with a grommet secured thereto in such a way as to permit said bath pad to be hung up for quick drying purposes after periods of usage; said pillow being moulded to the upper surface of said flexible member adjacent one end thereof, said pillow comprising a flexi- 3 4 ble covering of rubber or a rubbery material enclosing References Cited a filling of foamed rubber or rubbery material to cushion UNITED STATES PATENTS the head of said infant, said pillow extending between said rolled beads forming the side edges of said flexible 113'11932 3/1913 Hydeman 4-185 members and having an arcuately curved upper surface 5 Eg fifig y r 1 flarin downwardly at the back flush with said one 2,531,724 11/1950 Cevasco n 4 185 end of said flexible member and flaring downwardly at the front and joining the upper surface of said flexible I member at a sharp angle to permit the bath pad to be LAVERNE GEIGER Pnmary Examine) easily rolled up when not in use. 10 B.
