Description

renamed Apr. s, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE KNIFE CLEANER Robert Leano, Pasadena, Calif.
Application September 7, 1937, Serial No. 162,573
(CI. it-106) 1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in knife cleaners and the main object is to provide a device which may be conveniently mounted beneath the sink faucet and used to wash, clean, and dry knives of all kinds.
Another object is to provide a device of this kind in simple and durable form made up of spaced parallel bars supported on a bracket for mounting beneath the sink faucet and each bar having on its inner or proximate faces double rows of bristles which meet along the center line at their free ends so that a knife blade inserted therebetween will be cleaned by contact therewith, the outer faces of the bars also carrying rubber strips by which the knife blade may be dried.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing as showing a preferred embodiment of my invention for purposes of exempliiication.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is a plan view.
Figure 3 is a cross section along the line 33 in Figure 2. y
In carrying out my invention I provide a rectangular frame made up of spaced parallel side bars 2i-lia connected and held in this relation by end strips I-a secured by screws l. The said side bars 5-5a are preferably but not necessarily made of wood and along their inner or proximate faces have 'spaced rows of sockets il in which are seated the butts of bristles 9 which extend then from the bars to meet at their free ends along the center or axis of the frame.
The outer faces of the side bars have grooves l extended longitudinally from end to end opening outwardly. In these grooves are seated rubber strips or squeegees II by means of `screws I2 with the free margins of the strips extending outwardly some distance from the outer faces of the bars.
A bracket or support rod I3 is secured by one end at I 4 to the center of the end strip 6a and extends therefrom coaxially relative to the side bars E--Ea and at its outer end is formed to an eye I 5. A brace rod I6 is provided and the same is formed up with an eye I1 and spaced divergent arms I8 terminated at their ends in eyes I9. Hooks or screw eyes ZII` are secured to the side bars -Ba adjacent to the end strip 6. These parts constitute a supporting means for the cleaner and for such use the eyes I and I'I are rotatably seated down over a post orpipe 2l so that the cleaner extends horizontally from the post and is supported in this position by the arms I8 which extend diagonally upwardly from the post to their connection with the hooks 2li. To prevent the eye Il from dropping down the post too far, the post has a shoulder 22.
In use the post 2| is mounted vertically below the faucet of the ordinary sink (not shown) so that the cleaner frame is supported out beneath the faucet. In this position water may run from the faucet directly onto the bristles 9 and by inserting the knife blade between the bristles the blade will be cleaned as will be readily evident, the blade being worked back and forth between the bristles for this purpose. When the blade has been cleaned it may be withdrawn from between the bristles and drawn flatwise across either of the rubber strips II which will then Wipe oli' all moisture from the blade leaving it ready for use again. 'When not in use the cleaner may be swung to one side from beneath the faucet and will not interfere with ordinary use of the sink.
The mounting of the post ZI may be carried out in any suitable manner or in lieu of the use of this post, and where the water pipes are exposed, the mounting means for the cleaner may be placed directly on the pipes.
While I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood that I- may vary from the same in minor structural details so as best to provide a practical device for the purposes intended, not departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the vappended claim.
I claim:
In a device of the 'kind described for mounting upon a vertical post, a brace element havingr an eye for engaging the post, and a pair of arms extended divergently from the eye for angular extension upwardly from the post as mounted thereon, attachment eyes at the free extremities of the arms adapted to fall in a horizontal plane whenthe device is mounted, a support rod having at one end an eye for engaging the post at a point above the post engaging eye of the brace element, the free end of the rod extending outwardly from the post in a vertical plane passed through the post on which the device is mounted and bisecting the angle of divergence of the arms of the brace element as mounted on the post, and a brush holding frame supported outwardly upon the eyes of the extremities of the brace arms and inwardly by the free end of the support rod, the frame being thus adapted for horizontal disposition when the device is mounted on the post, the said frame including spaced side bars with means thereon for engaging the attachment eyes of the divergent arms of the brace element, and connecting end str-ips with means on the innermost end strip for engaging the end of the support rod.
