Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented Mar. 4t, 1919..
Application filed October 1, 1918. Serial No. 256,386.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAURENCE R. uarr- NIs, a citizen of the United States, resldmg .in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathin Infants, a specification. Y
My invention relates to a combined bath tub and dressing table intended to be erected upon an ordinary or standard bath tub for adults and designed to facilitate the bathing and dressing of an infant. It is the object of my invention to provide such an appliance which shall be portable and collapsible in order that it may be folded com pactly and set aside when not in use; which shall support the infant at a convenient elevation above the tub, so that the Washing and dressing operation may be conducted conveniently and easily; and which shall be simple and durable in construction as Well as inexpensive to manufacture, and shall be desirable and serviceable with respect to the uses for which it is intended. With the foregoing objects and requirements in view I have invented and designed the combined bath tub and dressing structure hereinafter more fully described and which constitutes a desirable embodiment and preferred form of my invention. The essential elements of my invention are more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood, however, that changes in the described construction may be made within the scope of such claims and without departing from the substance of my invention.
a In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective of an ordinary bath tub with my novel appliance supported thereon in position for use; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the appliance, taken centrally of the infants bath tub, as indicated by the dotted line 22 on Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective showing the construction and arrangement of members at the corner of the dressing table portion of the appliance.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the figures of the drawmg.
Describing now in detail the specific construction of my novel appliance as illustrated in the drawings, the sides of the rectangular frame 1 are connected by a cross member 2, and intermediate such cross memof which the following is Appliances for her and one end member of .the frame, is seated the dressing table portion 3 of the appliance. cross member and the other end member of the board is arranged the infants bath tub 4 which 18 constructed of a suitable pliable material, such as rubber-coated cloth or other waterproof material, the bottom of the tub being provided with a drain plug and the upper margin of the cloth tacked or secured by other suitable means to the surrounding frame members. Hinged to the end members of the frame 1 are leg members 5 formed with downwardly extending portions 5*, or legs proper, adjacent the corners of the frame, the bottom of such legs being curved as shown to seat upon opposite sides of the roll at the top of a standard bath tub 6. The leg members are each supported in extended position by means of a hinged bracket 7, a roundnosed spring-pressed plunger 8 seated in one of the frame members and arranged to cooperate with a shallow socket in the top of the bracket being provided to yieldingly hold the bracket against displacement when it is in position to coiiperate with the l ber with which it is associated. members 5 are arranged to fold up against the frame, and when folded one bracket 7 lies in the space between the adjacent leg members and the other bracket between the other leg member and the folds of the bath tub fabric. From the description which has been given it is obvious that my combined bath tub and dressing table structure is admirably adapted for the uses and purposes in The appliance when erected and d in position use is elevated a sufficient distance from the floor and above the standard tub to enable the infant to be washed and dressed without bendingor stooping down to a fatiguing degree, and when not in use it may be folded so as to occupy very little space.
I claim:
1. An appliance for bathing infants comprising a dressing table portion and a bathtub frame portion secured thereto and equipped with an infants tub, said dressing table and bathtub being arranged to extend side-by side transversely across a standard bathtub, and means on the/lower side of said portions and codperating with the top the bottom of the table 3, and
Within the space between the of such standard tub to support and 'maintain said appliance in position thereon.
.2. An appliance for bathing infants com.- prising a rectangular frame and including a dressing table portion and a bathtub frame portion mclosed within bathtub frame being equipped with an infants bathtub, and legs hinged to said rectangular frame and formed at their lower end to coiiperate with the top of a standard bathtub and support said appliance thereabovc. I a 7 3. An appliance for bathing infants comprising a rectangular frame and including a dressing, table portion and a bathtu frame inclosed within said rectangular such frame, said i the top of a standard bathtub frame, and bathtub frame beingl equi with a pliable tub, a pair of ing members each formed with a pair of legs,
said leg members being arranged to be folded under said table and said tub and when extended arranged to cooperate with and support said appliance 'thereabove, and folding brackets hinged to said leg members and arranged t'o'cooperate with suchmembers to ,maintain them in extended brackets when in folded position being disosed withinthe confines of the rectangular position, said rame.
