DESIGN.
W. C. HUSS. WALL FIXTURE FOR GOUNTBRS.
///i G: a 2 U fpw v w k i M i ID i 1 v a r w y m wMV/lL Wxin asses- Invanfun UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. HUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
Application filed September 21,
dated October 18, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known t-hat l, WILLIAM C. HUsS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Vall- Fixtures for Counters, of which the following is a specification. 1
My invention is a new and original design for a wall-fixture for a counter, the leading features of which are the entablature, the columns supporting it,and the ornamentation on the frieze and architrave, as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of one-half of a fixture made according to my design. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
The sideboard or closet part A of the fixture is recessed back of the pedestals A. A projecting top a covers the pedestals and closets. The closets are fitted with paneled doors a, and above the doors with paneled drawer-fronts framed with carved moldings. Upon the pedestals A at each end of the fixture rest two circular columns B, which are surmounted by carved capitals B. The capitals are nearly rectangular, the corners only being rounded slightly and with the sides turned in. abruptly to meet the necks of the columns, which are headed and are below the beaded portion ornamented with serollwork. The upper parts of the capitals conform nearly to the rectangular abacus which surmounts them. The shafts of the columns are preferably of lightercolored material than the body of the fixture and highly polished. Immediately back of the columns, upon each side, is a mirror-plate c, which re fleets the columns and gives the appearance of four instead of two columns at each end to support the entablature.
The architrave 0 above the columns has sunken carved panels. The architrave has a projecting corbel 0', apparently supporting the upper facia, which, like the corbel, projects forward in a bold curve. The portion of the corbel below the facia is carved scrollwork. In a panel formed by the facia and curved molding beneath carved spandrels c complete the central ornamentation upon each side of the corbel. The architrave between the carved end panels and the corbel is ornamented by carved shields c and ribbon 0 Below the lower facia of the architrave and above the sideboard is a molded frame inclosing a mirror D.
he cornice E is supported by two rectangular pilasters F at each end, from the center portions of which project triple brackets, which terminate in jets or globes. In the space between the pilasters, at each end, is a sunken panehin which isthe figure of a female and foliage in has-relief. The ends and center of the cornice project forward, and the center portion is apparently supported by four columns upon each side. The columns have carved capitals and a common abacus for all of them.
The center-piece of the frieze is an arch, which partially conceals the lower parts of the two inner columns upon each side.
The arch surrounds a reflecting-panel G, in front of which is arranged an ornamental torch, the bowl of which is open fretwork, within which is a globe g.
The background of the frieze between the pilasters and center-piece is formed in imitation of latt-ice-work,and preferably of stucco or carton pierre colored darker than the material of the fixture. Upon the frieze between the pilasters and center-piece, upon each side, are three patera in has-relief. In the center of each patera is an ornamental shield in altorelief.
What I claim is The design for a wall-fixture for counters, substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM G. HUSS.
