WILLIAM C. IIUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNORTO THE IIUSS BROTHERS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,369, dated March 8, 1892.
Application filed December 21,1891. Serial No. $16,813. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
1 3e it known that I, WILLIAM 0. Moss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Bar-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a new and original design for bar-fixtures, and particularly for the back or wall fixture or that portion back of and above the counter.
The leading feature of my design is the cornice and its supports; and it consists in the peculiar features shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of one end of a bar-fixture constructed after my design; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of bar-fixture, thecounter, which is not claimed, being omitted.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents a panel framed by a molding and forms the back panel of the wall-fixture. My design is intended for the back or wall fixture above the case or sideboard.
My back fixture consists of the end pilasters B, which rest upon the top of the sideboard, and the cornice O. The 'pilasters B consist of the rectangular uprights b, intermediate clusters of columns 11 between the square pedestal l) and the paneled capital b. The columns are mounted by carved capitals. The bases of the columns are partially concealed by carved branches of foli age. The upper molding of the cornice is supported by vertically-fluted caps b, between which and the paneled capitals b are placed columns b surmounted by ornamental capitals b, which are silver. There are, as shown, seven of these columns and capitals in front and one at each end, as this portion of the pilaster projects beyond the lower half of the cornice-molding. Above the fluted capitals b is the projecting molding c of the cornice, the projecting part of which is apparently supported by consoles c'. The upper portion of the cornice is formed to meet the ceiling of the room.
Upon the top piece of frame A at regular distances apart are arranged carved pendants e, and in line with the abacus above the columns of the end pilasters is a molding, which is a continuation of the abacus. The spaces between the abacus-molding and each of the pendants e are fitted a cluster of four columns 2', surmounted by capitals similar to the columns and capital upon the end pilasters. Above these clusters of columns are short fluted pilasters e, which apparently support the upper molding of the cornice. The spaces between these pilasters c are open arches titted with mirrors F. In the back of the mirrors are concave depressions, which when the back of the mirrors are silvered give the front of the glass the appearance of having raised convex protuberances formed upon them. Immediately below the arches and between each cluster of columns are sunk panels having carved spandrels at each of their ends.
The counter corresponds in general style with the back. Its distinguishing features are the verticalbrackets and raised or rounded panel G; but the design of the counter, while original with me, is not essential to the effect produced bythe back fixture, the leading features of which are the side pilasters and cornice-framing, the said cornice having a series of arches and intervening clusters of columns, and the mirrors within the arches.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
he design for a wall-fixture for a barcounter, substantially as herein shown and described.
