General Navona! Archwes Servlces and Admvmstrahon Records Servnca Washmglon, DC 20408 UNITEn STATES PATENT OFFIGEs WILLIAM TWEEDDALE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO NORTH AMERICAN IRON WORKS, OF SAME PLACE.
DESlGN FCR FOUNTAIN.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,503, dated September 2G, 1876; application filed August 14, 1876. [Term of Patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM TWEEDDALE, of Brooklyn, in the county ot' Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Fountains, of which the following is a specification The nature of my design is fully shown iu the accompanying illustration, to which refer. ence is herewith made.
The object of lny invention is to furnish an elegant design for parlor and other fountains, and it consists of a central top-piece with watershedding dragons, a polygonal reservoir with pillars and newer-pots at the corners, and of an elaborate base or pedestal.
ln the illustration, A represents the toppiece, that rises centrally from the fountain on a suitablyornamented pillar, and bulges out in the shape of a vase, which is arranged with a number of dragons, B, that shed the water into the reservoir below. A scalloped or crown -shaped support, C, rises above the dragons and holds a glass cover inclosing ferns or other suitable plants. The reservoir D is polygonal, with pillars at the corners, glass sides, and top molding, the pillars supporting tlower stands and pots D.
rIhe base or pedestal forms the most elabo. rate part of the fountain, and gradually nar rows from the base cornice or molding of the reservoir in the shape of a Romanesque capital, E, with appropriate ornamentation to the trunk or pillar shaped middle part El, from which it is again enlarged to a polygonal and cylindrical base part, E2. The trunk or pillar E1 has a horizontal central band, a, and rosettes b, that alternate with raised ribs d. The ribs d spring outwardly from the pillar E1 to four detached pillars, F, that are ornamented aualogous to the general style and the character of the fountain with pedestals and capitals, and provided above the capitals with bulging crown-pieces F1, having raised bands with studs and side and top rosettes. The pillars F are connected, by broken-out brackets e, with the base E2 of the fountain, the brackets connecting at the middle of the sides of the same, while the ribs run upward and terminate in ornaments somewhat in the shape of an abbots crosier. The alternating sides of the base are provided with rosettes or other appropriate ornaments.
The whole design combines elegance with substantial strength, and forms a tasteful and elaborate design for fountains for parlor and other purposes.
I claim as my inventionl. The design `for parlor or other fountain represented in the annexed illustration, and consisting, essentially, in a water-shedding top-piece, a reservoir with corner pillars and flower-stands, and of a vase or pedestal, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a top-piece oi' a fountain, composed of vase-shaped part having watersheddingdragons, and a scalloped crown above the same, supporting a glass cover, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for a base or pedestal for a fountain, composed of a Romanesque capital, trunk or pillar, and base, in combination with four pillars with studded and rosetted crownpieces and connecting-brackets, and ribs with crosier-shaped tops, substantially as shown and described.
