WILLIAM TYVEEDDALE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO NORTH AMERICAN IRON WORKS, OF SAME PLAGE.
DESIGN FOR A FOUNTAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,975, dated October 12, 1880.
Application filed April 12, 1880.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, WTLLIAM TWEEDDALE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented or produced a Design for a Fountain, of which the following is a specification.
This fountain is designed to be in cast-iron, and the same is represented in the accom panying photograph.
1o The top of the fountain is composed of a central standard, a', with a ball, i), spe-arc, and inverted conical leatlets d.
The basin l) is polygonal. The rim is a series ofarch-shaped ornaments. Below the rim there are pendent arches e, and at the angles the rosette ornaments e'.
Around the standardf, supporting the basin B, there are flying buttresses g in ornamental open-work. There is a conical base, 11thatis 2o ribbed, and from which rises said standardf.
The basin O is polygonal, with leaiiet ornaments around the rim and pendent open-work arches k. There are volute ornaments lat the lower end of the arches, and rosettes m upon vertical stems rising above the angles. The basin O is supported upon aclusterof columns, n, with molded caps and bases. and below the columns is a conical base, o, with volute leatlet ornaments, as shown.
3o The basin B is polygonal, having pendent open-Work arches r beneath the rim, which rim is made as a series of panels with scroll and star shaped ornaments. There are sphinx figures s at the angles, and rosette ornaments 3 5 t above the centers ofthe arches. The basin B is supported upon a. base ornamented with panel- Work at u, moldings, columns, and checker-Work at c, Wings w, that extend out radially at the bottom of the base and are 4o molded, and these wings support ornamental posts w, with globular ornaments, and the open-work flying buttresses y, with scroll-Work Term of patent 14 years.

This design, as a whole, is beautiful in apy pearance, and rendered still more so by the water when it is falling upon the different ornaments and dripping from them.
1t Will be apparent that smaller fountains may be made by the use of one or more of the 5o basins with the ornamental parts pertaining thereto.
I claim as my inventionl. The design of the shape and configuration of the upper basin, I), rim, pendent arches e, and rosettes e', substantially as shown.
2. The design of the basin O, with its rim, pendent arches, rosettes, central cone, andiiying buttresses, substantially as set forth.
3. The design of the shape and configuration 6o of the basin B, with its rim, pendent arches, rosettes, and sphinx, substantially as set forth.
4. The design of the ornamental base and columns beneath the basin O, substantially as as represented.
5. The design of the fountain-base, consisting in the body with panels and moldings,the molded Wings, the posts with globular ornaments, the dying buttresses, and the scrollornaments, substantially as set forth and 7o shown.
6. The design of the fountain, consisting of the basin D, oruamented as shown, the basins O and B, and ornamental connecting-columns, and the fountain-bnse,iiying buttresses, moldings, wings, rosettes, pendent arches, and other ornaments to the respective parts, substantiall y as described and represented.
