DESIGN FOR A NEWEL-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,514, dated October 11, 1881. Application fllerl September 5, 1881. Term of patent 3Q years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES I. HEALEY,a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented and produced anew and original Design for Newel-Posts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, forming part thereof, and which illustrates a perspective view of the post.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and original design for a newel-post, con sisting of an ornamental base, sides, and head or top supporting a vase or urn, as shown in the accompanying photograph, and hereinaftt 1' described.
In the photograph, A represents the base of the post, consisting of the flat-faced mold ings a b and the round-faced molding c, and above this latter molding is an ornamental bead, d. The sides or panels of the post have a circular flower, e, and around said flower are arranged four scrolls,f, and at each corner of the sides or panelsare spiralcolmnns 9. Above the sides or panels of the post is a fluted surface, h, located between two ornamental beads, k, and above this is the ornamental head B, which has upon each sidea V-shaped pendant,
| l,with a flower, m. This ornamental head B supports a covered vase or urn, (J, consisting of an ornamental base, it, flutes 0, and finialp.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A design for the top of a uewel post, con sisting of the head B, with V-shaped pendants l, flowers m, fluted surface It, and heads "5 k, said head B supporting an urn or vase, G, substantially as shown and described.
2. A design for the sides or panels of a new el-post, consisting of the circular flower e, scrollsf, and spiral colums g, substantially as shown and described.
3. A design for newel-posts, consisting of the base A, sides or panels having the circular flower e, scrollsf, and spiral columns 9, the fluted surface It, heads 2' A", head B, with V- shaped pendants l, flowers m, and the vase or urn U, substantially as shown and described.
