INVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. PATTERSON, OF BEAVER, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A VASE.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,525, dated January 16, 1883,
Application filed November 14, 1882. Term of patent? years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I,WILLIAM J. PATTERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver,in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Vases,of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
In the accompanying drawing a side view of my newly-designed vase is shown.
The leading feature of my design consists in the masks or faces of the Presidents Lincoln and Garfield on opposite sides of a vase, the forehead of each President being crowned with a wreath, A, of laurel-leaves. At each side of the vase, where the leaves A are joined, a star, B, is provided at the top, from which drapery U hangs down at the sides of the heads of the two Presidents in such a manner as to form an inclosure or frame for the sides of the heads and a background for each head. The laurel wreaths are surmounted by the mouth I) of the vase, which is preferably made circular. The lower parts of the necks or upper parts of the chests ofthe Presidents rest on the base E of the vase. The arrangement of the drapery O and of the star B may be varied more or less without materially atfecting my design.
The vase may be made of metal, porcelain, glass, plaster-of-paris, earthenware, or any other material from which vases are usually made.
The above-described device is also applicable to lamp-cones, 8:0.
I claim 1. A design for vases, which consists in the heads of ex-Presidents Garfield and Lincoln placed back to back, and coujointly crowned with a laurel wreath, as shown.
2. The herein-described design for vases, consisting of the heads of the Presidents Lincoln and Garfield on opposite sides of a vase, as set forth.
3. A design for vases, which consists of an open urn or vessel, 1), resting partly upon the head of one likeness and partly upon another, placed back to back, as shown.
4. The herein-described design for vases, consisting of two heads on opposite sides of a vase, the drapery 0 between the heads, and the star B above the drapery, as set forth.
5. The herein-described design for vases, consisting of two heads on opposite sides of a vase, the drapery 0 between the heads, the star B above the drapery, and the laurel wreaths A, as set forth.
6. The herein-described design for vases, consisting of two heads on opposite sides of a vase. the drapery C, the star B, the laurelleaves A, and the annular mouth 1), as set forth.
WILLIAM J. PATTERSON.
