WATCH PENDANT. No. 13.051. Patented July 18,1882.
flefg flasa'ym r: %8004/4/ fiMf UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EZRA c. FITCH, OF NEW YORK, n. Y.
DESIGN FOR A WATCH-PENDANT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,051, dated July 18, 1882.
Application filed April 25, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA. (J. FITCH, a. citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York. have invented a new and original Design for Watch and Looket Pendants, of which the following is a specification.
In the annexed drawing, the figure represents a front elevation of the stem or pendent portion of a watch-case provided with my newlydesigned pendant.
In the drawing, a indicates the rim of the watch-case; b, the neck or stem; 0, the crown or stemknob; and d, the pendant bow crying, which is sprung into sockets on the stem, as usual. My design, as may be readily observed, is applied to the pendant bow or ring d, and aims to ornament the open space within the ring between the inner periphery of the ring and the crown c, and thus impart a pleasing ornate finish to this part of a watch or locket, which is usually quite plain. The space between the ring d and the crown c is necessarily of a crescent shape, as usual, owing to the eccentric position of the crown within the ring. Now, according to my design I fill, or nearly fill, this crescent space by two ornamental flanges or wings,f f, which project from and extend around the interior of the ring in level plane therewith, as illustrated. These flanges circnmscribe the crown, one on either side thereof, and each flange commences narrowly at the base of the crown and spreads out as it rises around the ring and curves over the crown, and thus fills, or nearly fills, half of the crescent space between the ring and the crown, and each flange is of substantially semi-crescent shape, or has a form similar to a console or wing, as illustrated. The flanges are preferably completely separated from each other at the top of the ring, so as to leave a symmetrical open space between them similar to the form of a vase, as illustrated; but this form of open space is not essential. The corners of the flanges, which approach each other, are preferably terminated with an ornamental rounded or scrolled member, 1', and the middle of tho flanges are preferably perforated with an open panel, 9, of nearly similar form to the external outline of the flange. Instead of this panel, however, the face of the flanges may be ornamented with any other form of perforations, or with handsome engraving, or with decorations in enamel, or settings of precious stones, or various other decorations, as will be readily understood.
It will thus be seen that this design ornaments the plain open space in the pendant in a simple and efl'ective manner, and thereby imparts a very attractive and ornamental ap pearance to the watch or locket, for it will be readily seen that the pendant is a conspicuous part, well adapted to ornamentation, which is well accomplished by my design.
What I claim is- 1. The design for a watch or locket pendant,
consisting of ornamental flanges of semi-crescent shape, extending around the interior of the pendant-ring, between the same and the crown, substantially as herein described and illustrated.
2. The design for a watch or locket pendant, consisting of the flanges ff, ofconsole or semicrescent shape, extending around the interior of the pendant-rin g, circum scribing the crown, and separated by a symmetrical space at the broad ends above the crown, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The design for a pendant-bow, consisting of semi-crescent-shaped flanges ff, extending around the interior thereof, commencing narrowly at the lowerend of the ring and broad ening at the top, with a central panel or opening cut in the said flanges similar to their external outlines, substantially as herein described and illustrated.
E. C. FITCH.
