DESIGN FOR A BASE FOR GASKETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,660, dated February 16, 1897. Application filed September 17, 1896. Serial No. 606,183. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whont it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM A. SPARKS and LEO STEIN, of Iloboken, in the county of Hudson, in the State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and useful I)esign for Caskets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accom panyingd ra\\ings,showing a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a top plan View of the base of a casket embodying our invention, and Fig. :3 is a side elevation thereof.
The leading feature of our design consistsin a base of a casket having a substantially tint and horizontal lower edge and upwardly-prw jecti11gel1ds,tlie top edges of which ends,when viewed in top plan, as in Fig. l, are extended in opposite directions from their central portions toward the central or intermediate portion of the base, and when viewed in elevation, as in Fig. 2, are extended or inclined upward ly in opposite directions from the central or in termediate portion of the base. The lower edge of the base is substantially flat and horizontal. The side walls of the central or intermediate portion a of the base are substantially flat, and the opposite ends a a of said base project upwardly from said portion a. The top edges a" of the con tral or intermediate portion a are substantially parallel and horizontal, and the top edges a of the upwardlyprojeeting ends a (1. when viewed in top plan,

The top edges of the side walls and the upwardlyprojeeting ends a (I are provided with a beaded molding, and the lower portions of said side walls and ends are provided with an outwardlyflaring molding arranged substantially parallel with the lower edge of the base.
The base of a casket embodying thisdcsign presents a pleasing and characteristic appearance, owing to the combined effect of the straight and curved lines and s11 rfaccs.
\Vhat we claim is The design for the base of a casket, substantially as herein shown and described.
