DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,101, dated February 21, 1888.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we,W1Lr.iAM J, KEEP and CHARLES W1rFLER,both citizens of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of `Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Design for a Stove, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This designis especially intended for a range *with high closet.

Referring to the accompanying photograph, A indicates the oven-top, having a crest which curves upward and outward. At each corner and at the center of the front are scrolls, between which the crest is perforated` Below this are the closet-doors B, each being curved at the outside to form a continuation of the curve of the side or end of the closet. Each door has each corner ornamented with a scrollshaped gure consisting of a center at the extreme corner and two smaller branches run` ning from the corner. In the center of the door is an ornament composed of a central rosette, around which is a wrcatli,whieh in turn is surrounded by scroll-work. The sides of the closet are ornamentcd similarly to the doors, and both doors and sides start directly from the bottom and top.

Immediately below the base or shelf b of the closet is a brack etpouch, G, having its surface ornamented by scrolls, below which is the pipe D,ornamented with the Words Garland Stoves and Ranges, surrounded by a wreath, and below this are several projecting lines, d. At

the sides of the pipe are two columns, d', ornamented by transverse ribs or beads. Outside of these columns are Wings or brackets d, the top and bottom of which are ornamented by rosettes, between which are three scrolls of different sizes, the smallest of which is in the center. Below the pipe, the columns, and wings is a base, E, ornalnented with bands of plain beads at top and bottom, between which is a band of ornamented scroll-work, in the center of which and at the bottom of the pipe are three openings partly surrounded by the scrolls. All of the above parts below the shelf b, for the purpose of this specilication, We call the support Serial No2-11,801.

Referring to the stove proper, it willbe seen that the rc-door F is orna mcntcd with a centrai scroll and two side scrolls extending from top to bottom of thc door.

The ovcndoor G is ornamcnted with a central ornament, g, around which is a Wreath, outside of which is a broader' scroll-work. At thc side of this is another ornament, g', consisting of a rosette partially surrounded by scrolls in which appear six openings. The upper rear corner is ornamented by a series of scrolls running from the corner along the top and down the rear. The frontcdge is also ornamented with scrolls, the lower end termi nati ng in a nondescript head.

The side of the reservoir H is ornainented with a rosette in the lower corner, from which rise sprays of leaves and iiowers, and near the center is an ornament composed of a fancifully-shaped letter G inclosing owers.

The front I ofthe stove has a hearth, J, be- Iowits doors, beneath which is a pouch, K.

The leg-base is ornamented with a series of rosettes and scrolls having in the center agrotesque face, from the mouth of which some of the scrolls start.

rlhe leading features of this design are the rectangular closet surmonnting the pipe ornainented by wings, the configuration and surface ornamentation of the closet and oven doors, the ornamentation of the pipe D, and the general configuration of the stove as a whole.

IVhat we claim as new is- 1. The design for a stove, comprising the stove-front, the leg-base, fire and oven doors, the reservoir, the high closet, and its support, all having the shape shown.

2. In a design for a stove herein shown and described, a. closet having a base and top and curved end plates whose outer lines run directly to the base and top.

3. In a design for a stove, the pipe ornameuted by the bracket-pouch C, inclined upon one side and ornamented upon said inclined side, as shown.

4. In a design for a stove, the closet-d0or curved at its outeredge and ornamented at each corner with a triangular-shaped ornament, as shown.
