A. C. STOESSIGER.
v STOVE PLATFORM.
No. 281,208. Patented July 10, 1883.

AUGUSTUS O. STOESSIGER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STOVE-PLATFORM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,208, dated July 10, 1883. Application filed March 2,1883. (No model.)
To all whom/it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS 0. gross- SIGER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Platforms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the acconr panying drawings.
My invention relates to stove-platforms or mats, the object being to provide a device of this character which will be cheap and durable in its construction and of neat and attractive appearance.
Figure 1 is a plan view of myplatforin; Fig. 2, a section of the same on the line as m, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a section on the line y y; and Figs. 4,5, and 6 represent parts in detail.
A represents the base or body. of the platform, preferably made of wood or other light material.
B represents the upper surface of the 'platform. It is made of sheet metal of a size considerably less than that of the base A, and is secured to the latter by means of border-strips C and corner-pieces D in the following manner: The edges 1) of the surface B are bent upwardly and inwardly to engage the oppositelybent inner edges, 0, of the border-strips O, the outer edges of the latter being bent over and under the edges of the base A to secure the parts thereto. The corner-pieces D are triangular in form and adapted to fill the space between the ends of the border-strips C, as shown. The ends 0 of the strips 0 are bent under to engage the adjacent edges, c, of the corner-pieces D, as shown in Figs. 4 and 6. The outer or curved edges, (1, of the corner-pieces are lapped around the corners of the base A, as shown. Each of the border-strips G is provided with a bead, E, formed near the outer edges thereof and parallel with the latter. The
beads register with similar curved beads, E, formed upon the corner-pieces D. Thus it will be seen that a continuous bead is formed around the platforin, which serves to strengthen and finish the same. As shown in the drawings, the border-strips and corner-pieces are designed to be ornamented in any preferable manner, and the device as an entirety is adapted to present a neat and tasteful appearance.
hat I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, the mat or st0ve-platform consisting in the combination, with a base or body, of an upper surface or center-piece secured to the base by means of border-strips and corner-pieces whose edges are lapped upon themselves to connect the parts, substantially as shown and described.
2. Aplatforin for stoves, consisting of a base of wood or otherlight material, a center-piece or upper surface of sheet metal, metallic border-strips whose inner edges are bent to engage the lapped edges of the upper surface, while their outer edges are lapped over and under the edges of the base, and corner-pieces secured to the border-strips by having the adjacent edges lapped over the oppositely-bent edges of said border-strips and having their outer or curved edges turned over the base, substantially as shown and described.
, 3. The combination, with the base and con-- ter portion, of border-strips and corner-pieces secured together and to said base and center portion bythe engagement of theirbent edges, as described, and provided near their outer edges with beads, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 30th day of De cember, 1882.
AUGUSTUS C. STOESSIGER.
