Description

D9164 OR D 191177 DESIGN.
H. P. FAIROHILD. MATCH BOX.
No. 19,177. Patented June 25, 1889.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY P. FAIRCHILD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A MATCH-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,177, dated June 25, 1889.
Application filed May 27, 1889. Serial No. 312,301. Term of patent 3% years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY P. Fnsomnma citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Match-Box, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, forming part thereof.
The accompanying photograph is a side or face view of a match-box showing my design.
The principal features of my design are, first, the peculiar shape or outline of the box viewed from the side, and, second, the ornamentation on the surface thereof.
As shown by the photograph, the sides or edges and ends of the box are composed of a series of curves of varying shape and extent, thus imparting to the box an unusual and unique a pearance.
The or amentation consists of raised figures composed mainly of scroll-work with a cluster of flowers 1' nclosed in the central portion near the bottom and others near the upper lefthand corner of the body of the box. At the lower left-hand corner of the body of the box, and also at the right-hand corner of the lid, are a. series of straightlines arranged crosswise of each other, thus forming at those points a series of diamond-shaped squares or spaces, and which, being so dissimilar from the rest of the ornamentation, at once attracts attention.
hat I claim is- The design for a matchbox herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I hereunto sot my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
