WTNEssEs UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
EDMUND STEINLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR THE BASE OF A JEWELRY-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,762, dated May 4, 1880.
Application iled March 25, 1880. Term ol patent 3 years.
To all whom fit may concern:
Beit known that I, EDMUND STEINLE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Base of Jewelry-Box, ot which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, maliing part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of myimproved base for jewelry-eases, and Fig. 2 a detail vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre-l spending parts.
rlhis invention relates "to an improved desi gn for the bases of jewelry-cases 5 and it consists of a base for jewelry-cases in which the tinishingcord or trimming is placed upon the base, while the supporting spring-cushion rises directly from the finishing-cord.
Heretofore the bases for jewelry-boxes were recessed, and the supporting spring-cushions secured into the recesses and linished ottl at their lower parts with a chenille or other cord, which, however, like the cushion, was set into the recess and below the level ot' the rim of the base. The spring-cushion appeared thereby to be sunk in, and failed to bring` out the jewelry sufliciently when the box was opened.
The object of my design is to bring` out the jewelryin a more effective manner by raising both the finishing-cord and spring-cushion above the base, by which a pyramidal shape, and therefore a more ornamental configuration, is imparted to the base.
Ain the drawings is the bottom piece, B the iinishing chenille or other cord or trimmin g, and O the springcnshion, of my improved base for jewelrycases. The cord B is placed directly upon the bottom piece, A, at such distance from its edge that the top of the case, when brought down upon the base. will inclose the cord, as shown in Fig. 2. The springcushion C rises from the level of the cord, so that cord and cushion stand out pyramidally from the bottom piece and bring' ont the jew elry in a more prominent manner when the case or box is opened. The pyramidal shape ot' the base renders the same more ornamental and bet-ter adapted for the proper artistic exhibition of the articles ot'jewclry.
Having, thus described my invention, l
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters lEDMUN D STE INLE.
Vitnesses PAUL GOEPEL, CARL KAEP.
