DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,805, dated August 30, 1892. Application filed July 30,1892. Serial No. 441,770. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE ll. Ilouuxxn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original De sign for (looking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The drawing representsa perspective view of thestove, taken from a point of view somewhat above the level of the top of the stove and a short distancein front, taking thefront to be that end of the stove from which the ash-pit projects.
The leading features of my design in the stove as a whole are the following: The top casting extends beyond the sides and ends of the body of the stove, terminatingin a downwardly-convex-curved edge. Along the lefthand edge of the top issecured the verticallyplaced bracket,in themiddleof which is formed the flange forthe attachmentof the pipe, which makes an offset in the same convex toward the right-hand side of the stove. In this offset is formed the check-damper openings. The end parts extend from the middle curved part in right lines to the front and back ends of the stovetop. In these two end parts are supported, respectively, a tea-potshelf. The vertical bracket is ornamented with a representation of a branch of a grape-vine with leaves and bunches of grapes in relief on a stippled or roughened background. To the rear end of the top casting and on a level with the same is secured an extension warming-shelf. The front lire-box door is formed straight from end to end, the upper and end edges being convex curved, making the body of the door stand out from the front of the stove, giving it the appearance of a thick casting, the upper portion of the door being stippled or roughened and the lower portion having formed therein the openings for the draft. The hoarllrplato extends forward from the bottom of the front lircbox door, the edges thcrcof being convex curved downward si|ni lar to the top casting, the side edges extending, after they are inclined upward, from the line of the frontol' tho iire-box and then on a level back along the sides of the stove to a distance corresponding to the rear edge of the side lirebox door. llencath the hearth-plate is the ash-pit, which is formed with inclined sides and front and is comparatively shallow, ex-
tending to approximately one-third of the distance to thelevelof the bottom of thestove. The side fire-box door is formed with an inclined rear-edge and isornamented with a branch ofa grape-vine with attached bunch of grapes and leaves and is hinged at its front edge. The forward edge of the side plates of the stove extend vertically downward from the lower side of the hearth-plate on a line corresponding approximately to the front side of the firebox and then gently curved toward the back of the stove until the curve becomes tangential to vertical, where it meets the bottom plate of the stove, which projects all round beyond the side and end plate of the stovein a convex-cnrved edge corresponding to the edges of the top casting and hearth-plate. The oven-door is formed with straight edges at the top and bottom and back, the lower edge being longer than the upper, the upper forward corner being cut away to allow for the firebox. The front edge of the door is vertical to where it is cut away immediately under the rear side of the side firebox door,
leaving a space between it and the frontedge of the side plate of the stove exposed, which is ornamented with a bunch of grape-leaves. The oven-door is ornamented with a branch of a grape-vino extending diagonally across the same from the lower front corner to the upper rear corner. To the branch is attached leaves and bunches of grapes, and there is perched thereon a bird in the act of picking at one of the bunchcs of grapes. In approxi mately the center of the door is a medallionplatc, in the center of which is a bunch of grapes in relief. The door as a whole is formed Willi rounded or curved edges, except. at the bottom edge, making the door convex on the exterior. Extending along the sidcol' the stove, of about the length of the oven door. is secured the extension oven-bottom shell, on which is a scroll ol' grape-loaves in rolii-l" on a slipplcd or roughened background.
The stove nsa whole is mounted on the base, which from \vllcrc it joins the bottom plate cnrvcs outwardly in approximately a quadrantofacirclc. Thelower-edgeisformed with a double raised head, which at the corners rnrves up to the upper margin of the hase and then turns on itself, terminatin; in
a nnmherof radial sprays. The base as a whole is ornamented with two branches of 5 grape-vine,thestock endsof which areerossed at the middle of the length of one side, snr mounted with a bunch of grapes extending toward either end and provided with leaves all in raised work on astippled orroaghened groundwork. The base rests on the four feet, which are arranged on the diagonals from cornertocornor, cnrved outwardly at the bottom, and tapering in a gentle curve from the comparatively wide tops to the lower extremities. :5 The general shape of the exterior surface as lhevorners member of given to the looked at diagonally at-ross ontof is a compound curve, the upper which corresponds to the curve cross-section of the hase.
The design for a cooking-stove, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof 1 hereto allix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 26th day of May, 1892.
