DESIGN.
G. H. HOLLAND. COOKING STOVB. No. 21,804. Patented Aug. 30, 1892.
57 ya# M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A COOKlNG-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,804, dated August 30` 1892.
Application filed July 30. i392. Serial No. 441.769. T-:rm of patent 14 years.
T0 CLU whom, it muy Conce/w,.-
le it known that l. Moonen ll. lloi.|,.\.\'o, acitizen ol the l'nitcd States, residing.; in the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference beingr had to the accompanying drawing, forming,r a part thereof.
The drawing represents a perspective View of the stove, taken from a point of viewsonicwhat above the level of the top of the stove and a short distance in front, taking the front to be that end of the stove from which the ash-pit projects.
The leading features of my design in the Stove as a whole are the following: 'lhe top casting extends beyond the sides and ends of the body of the stove, terminatingina downwardly-convexcurved edge. Along the lefthand edge of the top is the vertically-placed bracket, in the middle of which is formed the flange for the attachment of the pipe, which makes an olset in the same convex toward the right-hand side of the stove. In this offset is formed the check-damper openings. lhe end parts extend from this middle curved part in rightlinestothe frontand back ofthe stove-top. In these two end parts are supported, respectively, atea-pot shelf. The vertical bracket is ornamented with a represen tation of a branch of grape-vine with leaves and bunches of grapesin relief on a stippled or roughened background. To the rear end of the top casting and on alevel with the Sallie is an extension warming-shelf. 'lhe coalchute extends from the upper part of the front of the stove, the door of which extends in an inclined curve from the front edge of the top casting. In the chute-door are formed the check-draft openings. Frein the lower edge of the chute-door the bottoni of the chute extends in an inclined direction until itineets the frontplateot'thestove. [fromimmediatelybe` low the conjunction of thcchnte-bottoin and the front plate of thestove is the upper odge ol` the front lire-box door, which is formed with curved upper and cnil edges and the door as a whole curved in its lcngthacross the l'rontof thestovg- The upper portion of thcfront lirebox door is stipplcd and the lower portion provided with draft-openings. 'l'hc hearth-plate exit-ndsl from thelower edges of the frontiirebox door in a forward direction on a level corresponiiiu;r approximately one-third of the height of the body of the stove above the bottoni of the oven. 'lhe edges of the hearthplatc are curved downwardly similar to the top casting. 'lho sido edges of the hearthplatc extend back beyond the front side of the 6c store until they meet the front edge of the oven-door. letwecn the backward ly-project` ing edges of the hearth-plate and the lower edge oiA the lside fire-box door and between the ifront edge of the stove and the front edge of the oven-door there iS a space in the side plates of the stove, from which protrndes the grate-shaking rod. Beneath the hearth-plate is the ash-pit, which extends in depth to approximately the level of the bottom of the 7o edges at the top and bottom and back, the 8o lower edge being longer than the upper, the upper forward corner being cut away. The front edge of the door is vertical to where it is cut away immediately under the rear side of the side fire-box door, leaving a space between 8 5 itand the frontcdgeofthesideplateof thestove exposed, which is ornainented with a bunch ot' grape-leaves. 'lhc oven-door is ornamented with a branchof a grape-vine extendingdiagonally across the saine from the lower front 9o corner to thc upper rear corner. To the brauch is attached leaves and bunches of grapes, and there is perched thereon a bird in the act of pickingr at one of the bunches of grapes. In
approximately the center of the door is a nie- 95 dallion-plate. in thecenterof which is a bn uch of grapes in relief. 'lhe door as a whole is formed with rounded or curved iulgos,oxci\pt :itthc liolloni i-ilgi.\,|n.'1kinf.: tho door convex on llio iwiirior. the stove, of about the length ol' tho oventloor, is' the c.\lcusion oven-bottoni shelf willi a scroll ol' grape-leaves in relief on astipplvd or roughencd background.
The bottom plate of the stove projects Ext-endingr along thesiileol' :oo
'lhe stove as a whole is mounted ou the hase, which from where it joins the bottom plate curves outwardly in approximately a quadrant of acirc'le. 'lhelower edgeis formed 5 with a double raised head, which at the corners curves upto the upper margin of the base and then turns on itself, terminating in a number of radial sprays. The base as a whole is oruamented with two branches of grape-vine, the stock ends of which are crossed at the middle of the length of one side, surmounted with a bunch of grapes extending toward either end and provided with leaves, all in raised work on a stippled or roughened groundwork. The base rests ou the four feet, which are arranged on the diagonals from corner to corner, curved outwardly at the bottom,
and tapering in a gentle curve from the comparatively wide tops to the lower extremities. 'lhe general shape of the exterior surface as looked at diagonally across one of the corners is a compound curve, the upper member of which corresponds to the curve given to the cross-section of the base.
I claim- The design for a cooking-stove, tially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto alix my signature,in the presence of two witnesses, this 26th day of May, 185.12.
