IMPROVEMENT IN DETACHABLE ASH-FANS FOR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,267, dated April 20, 1875; application filed March 1, 1575.

Figure l is a perspective view, showing my improvement applied to the hearth. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of Fig. 1 taken on the line at .90.

A is the front portion of the stove, and B is the ash-box or drawer beneath. O is the bottom, which in this example of my invention is grated, but the bottom may be perforated with holes, if desired. This grated or perforated bottom and drawer may extend under the entire stove in addition to the ordinary stove-grate, so that the coals which drop from the stove-grate will rest on the bottom 0, while the ashes will pass through the bottom 0 into the ash-drawer. The drawer is supported on side cleats d by the grooves e e in the bottom of the stove, as seen in Fig. 2. F is the handle of the drawer. G is the space for ashes in the drawer, beneath the grated bottom 0. When the grated bottom and drawer are intended only for the hearth, the hearth is made on a level with the bottom of the stove. This improvement is applicable to all kinds of stoves, cooking as well as ordinary heating or parlor stoves.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of grated fire-box A 0, having grooves e e, and the subjacent ashpan B G, having flanges d d, as and for the purpose specified.
