Description

UNITED TA'IES DESIGN FOR COOKING-STOVES.
To alt 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN V'. I). GARTEN, of Cleveland, in the eounty of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have originated a Iattern for (looking-Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, referenee being' had to the photographie illustrations inak-` ing part of this specification..
In the drawings, Figure l represents a cooliinstove embodying my design; Fig. 2 a modification oii the same with the shelfI removed and water-reservoir and heatiiigeloset substituted.
A is the top of the stove; I3, a square face or flange east with the top and extending comiletely around it. This faee or iiange has curved corners i),\vl1ieh forni a continuous and unbroken outline without projection or depression relative to the remaining portion of the face.
C represents a shelt' attached to the baek ofthe stove, and held in position by the brackets I). The shelf, as shown, is upon the same plane as the top of the stove, and is also supplied with a square faee or flange, B, of sub stantially the same style and wid th as the top, and formed with plane curved corners b.
The hearth H is also provided with a square face or iiange, 15, exten din g completely around its exposed edge, and of the saine style as that on the top of stove, already described, the corners of said face being also plane curves.
In Fig. 2 the shelf is removed, and a reservoir, I, and heating-closet K substituted.
It will be observed that the style ot' iiauge or face B and B surrounding the upper portion ofthe reservoir I and closet K is substautiall5T the same as that already described as being part of the top hearth and shelf.
It will be observed that this flange, turned square or at right angles to the plate to which it is attached, and formed with the plane curved corners, is a prominent feature in the construetion of this stove, so that the stove as awhole produces a harmonious ei'ect.
The baok of the stove is made, as shown, with a curve, L, and a vertical straight portion, l, and .is ornainented at its curve on its side by the ornament F2. From the upper extreinity of this eurve the stove-bach extends up to the top plate in a straight vertical line, as shown at I.
lil is the oveirllooi', ornainented by a border, E2, substantially as shown, also havin g au ornamental center-piece, Il", with design, as shown, 'formed thereon, and an ornamental handle or knob, E.
Gr is the door to the re-box, also ornament ed with border g, center-piece g1, and handle g. Doors E and G are fashioned with swell or convex faces.
The corners of the stove are ornainented with the design F.
The ornamental designs F, El, F2, and El* ma)Y be east separatelyr and ot` a different n1aterial from the stove itself and afterward attaehed to the plates, or they mayy be east upon the iron plates themselves.
-What I elaiin as my invention is-- l. A design for a stove-back in which the curved portion L is provided at its side with the curved ornamental plate Fi, substantially as described.
2. A design for stoves in which the corner or corners are provided with the straight orn ainental plate F, substantially as set forth.
3. A design for a stove-oven door in which the ornamental center-piece E3 is provided with the design as shown formed thereon, substantiall5T as set forth.
4. A design for a stove-oven door consist1 ing of ornamental handle El, figured border E, and center-piene E3 provided with the design as shown formed thereon, substantially as set fort-h.
5. A design for a stove tire-box door, G, consisting of figured border g, figured centerpiece gl, and ornamental handle g2, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN V. I). CARTER.
In presence ofm F. ToUMnY, JNO. Gnownti., Jr.
