' SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,954, dated Julyl, 1890.
Application filed April 16, 1890. Serial No. 348,098. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county and State of New York, haveinvefited arfd produced a new and original Design for Cane or Umbrella Handles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cane or umbrella handle illustrating my new design; and Fig. 2 is a similar view, but looking from the opposite direction.
A is the body part, and extends upwardly, of the shape shown, terminating upon one side in aform of crook B and upon the other side in an npward1y-extending point or excrescence O. The parts 0 andA are more or less ornamented by the raised or ribbed portions E, which start from the point C and have the appearance of being wrapped about said portions 0 and A, and terminating in points. The base portion below these ribbed portions is shaded or ornamented so as to make the portions E, which are of plain surface, stand out in bold relief. The base of the body portion A is finished by an annular band D of plain surface. The crook B is formed with a series of annular bands G G, which have the effect of growing out of each other, and formed upon their outer ends with a series of rectangular or diamond-shaped projections, and said several parts G G are made in bold relief by shaded work between them, substantially as shown.
The handle may be made of any suitable material.
Having now described my new design, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let: ters Patent, is
The design for umbrella or cane handles, substantially as herein described and shown.
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set my hand.
HENRY O. SCHMIDT.
