UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK R. ITAFFORD, OF PROVIDENCE, RIIODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO HAMILTON & HAMILTON, Jlt, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR BRUSHES, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,091, dated May 25, 1897'.
Application filed January 28, 1897. Serial No. 621,103. Term of patent 7 years.
relief.
Be it known that I, FRANK R. STAFFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and prod need a new and original Design for a Ilandle for Brushes, &e., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my new and original design. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view.
The leading feature of my design consists of helical ridges 1, extending in convolutions from one end of the handle to the other, between which are corresponding convolute or helical concave depressions 2. Upon one or more sides of the handle may be formed a substantially elliptical plain surface 3, about which and breaking into said plain surface irregularly and extending oppositely therefrom in both directions along the length of the handle is an enfoliated design i, substantially as shown in the drawings. This enfoliated design 4 has a flower 5 at either end of the surface 3, and the whole is embossed, stamped, or otherwise wrought into pleasing how the helical ridges terminate.
My design shows a rounded handle having its major diameter well out toward the outer end and of elliptical shape in cross-section, but it is obvious that the handle may be given a circular form in cross-section tlwoughout.
The whole design constitutes an ornamental and pleasing configuration having marked anddistinguishingcharaeteristies. Thishan- (lle may be made of metal or of plastic material, and it may be made hollow or solid by being molded, stamped, or spun in any of the suitable ways known in the art. It is designed as a handle for any relatively small article, such as brushes, button-hooks, glovefasteners, and similar articles.
Having described my invention, 1 claim- The design for a handle for brushes, buttonhooks, glove-fasteners, and other similar art ieles, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK H. S'lAPFORl). Witnesses:
WM. B. W. IIALLET'I, Wu. J. GATELY.
