UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY O. SCHMIDT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO SIMONS, BROTHER & (30., OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A CANE OR UMBRELLA HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,987, dated July 1, 1890.
Application filed April 15, 1890. Serial No. 348,109. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced anew and original Design for Cane or Umbrella Handles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The drawing shows a side elevation of a cane o r umbrella handle embodying my new design.
A is the upwardly-extending body part, and terminates at the top in a crook B and a rearwardly-extendin g excrescence E. The under part of the crook and the adjacent side of the body part A are made with a series of depressed portions 0 and are plain. The upper portion D of the crook is also plain; but where it unites with the parts 0 it is ornamented or shaded to make a contrast, and the upper portions of the parts 0 extend slightly outward from the part D. The part H of the body portion A is also plain, and, as in the case of the part D, is separated from the portions 0 by ornamental or shaded work. At the upper portion of this part H there is acrook G, acting as a support for the excrescence E. The lower portion of the depressions O on the body part A terminate in the spiral I. The lower portion of the body part A is relieved by a base-band F of ornamental work.
The handle is made of any suitable material.
Having now described my new design, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for umbrella or cane handles, substantially as herein described and shown.
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set my hand HENRY O. SCHMIDT. Witnesses:
G. T. KENTER, FRANK H. SHERWOOD.
