UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK N. EosTER, DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
ADJUSTABLE FINGER-RING.
EBPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,435, dated July 21, 1885.
Application filed July 30, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK N. FosTER, of Duluth, county of St. Louis, Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Finger-Ring, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved fingenring, the band or shanks of which can be easily adjusted to form bows of different diameters for fingers of dif ferent thicknesses.
The invention consists in the combination, with a gem-frame or center piece, of a bow or circular band, the ends of which are pressed into the ends of the frame, and of cams pivoted in the ends of-the gem-frame for locking the ends of the bow in the gem-frame.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is an edge or side view of my improved adjustable ring, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same on the line a; m, Fig. 1.
The gem-frame A, or other center part of the ring, has its inner side or back side, B, made concave, to fit against the finger, and the outer side, 0, is made flat, concave, c0nvex, or may have any desired shape; and it may contain any desired gem, ornamental piece, &c. A hollow is formed between the front and back of the gem frame or box, and into the ends of this hollow the ends of the bow or circular band D are passed. 3 5
Gains, levers, or eccentrics E are pivoted between the ends of the side pieces, F, of the box or frame A, and when folded down they press the ends of the band D against the inner surface of the back 13, thus holding the ends of 40 the band or bow in place.
When the cam-levers E are swung down, their outer sides form bevels from the'ends of the front of the gem-box to the bow.
The ring can be adjusted to fit any finger by 5 raising one or both cams and pushing the ends of the bow toward or pulling them from each. other and then looking them in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a ring, the combination, with the gemframe or center piece, A, having a concave back, B, of the bow or circular band D, having the ends passed into the ends of the frame A, and of the cams E, pivoted between the 55 side pieces of the gem-frame at the ends, substantiallyas herein shown and described.
FRANK N. FOSTER.
